Are you a fan of animal prints?
A tried and true classic animal prints never go out of style.
I have quite a few pieces in my personal collection that are animal prints. I’m always on the lookout for leopard prints for my Etsy shop which are often snapped up as fast as I can list them.
Animal prints are a surprising neutral and should work with almost everything in your closet.
Animal Prints Never Go Out Of Style
This unique animal print vintage a-line dress includes the whole jaguar in the pattern. The print thrilled me immediately and I was delighted when I managed to make the dress work for my frame with the addition of the belt and some high heel boots.
I thought I’d try this with a different hat for fun.
As much as I like wide brim hats, the 1970s one featured here is one of my favorites, they aren’t as easy to wear as a cotton beret.
Ultimately I decided on wearing the beret.
It isn’t often that I’m drawn to black and white but the print was too good.
Spring may finally be on its way. Yesterday it was +6 C and sunny, warm enough to take the pug for a walk which put a smile on both our faces. This morning it was back below freezing at -3 C but I’m ever hopeful that we can avoid a late March or early April snowstorm this year. When you live in Canada winter is often like an annoying house guest refusing to move on.
Here are some other animal print pieces either from my closet or my store.
This 80’s leopard jumpsuit is just so freaking fab. I need to wear it more often.

Your posts are always so full of fabulous looks, Suzanne! The jaguar is hypnotic, I can’t stop staring. And your leopard parka is TDF.
I don’t know off the top of my head what 3 degrees C feels like but it sounds like the North Pole! Spring is coming, though, and you and the pug will be smiling. xox

Ha ha! 3 C is 37.4 F. Chilly! Today is nice and I took the pug for a long walk but this weekend we may get a dusting of snow. : (

Yes, I am!
I loved your leopard dress and all your other animal print outfits all looked fab.
I am acquiring more animal print; the only thing I lack is an animal print skirt. i have a coat, a jacket, several scarves, leggings x 2, cardigans, I had a knitted dress and I have animal print boots. I recently bought an animal print kimono…Oh, and a beret would be good, too!
Hope you have a warmer week…

suzanne carillo says
Oooh! An animal print beret would be fab! I’ll be on the lookout for one for myself now ; P
Vix says
Hooray for Spring. It’s been 15 degrees here and I’m been able to sit stitching in the sunshine while Jon works on the van and the cats bask in the sun. Doesn’t it make you feel good?
That black and white jaguar dress is wonderful on you, what a great print. Love the parka with the orange mini, too – just fab!
I’ve owned (and always ended up selling) many vintage leopard fake furs, a 1970s tiger print maxi and a midi and a particularly groovy 1960s snakeskin catsuit. I like animal print but like them on others more! I do have a pair of secondhand leopard boots but since Theresa May wore hers I’m not so keen! xxx
suzanne carillo says
That catsuit in snakeskin must have been insane!!!
Elle says
I agree with both assertions. First that animal prints are classic, and secondly that animal prints are neutral. I love how you wore this first one in the unexpected white and black combination. The red boots are stellar.
The second print is beautiful as well. I am pleased to see none of these are in the traditional neutral pallet.
Have a great week ahead.
❤️❤️❤️

Yeah…I’m pretty far from neutral ; P

That black and white animal print is quite special and brings a little growl from deep down. You wear that kind of atypical, unique, print so perfectly Suzanne. I think we’re all encouraged to stretch out of our comfort zones.
I realize I don’t have animal print “guts” in my wardrobe. A thrifted cardigan and a beret are my only pieces right now.
suzanne carillo says
A cardigan and a beret are great pieces to own in animal print Jude! I’m on the lookout for a beret for myself now.
Taste of France says
That black and white dress is fantastic, and you really rock it. It’s just right–the pattern is busy and almost hypnotic, but the simplicity of black and white keeps it from being too much.
I like all your examples, but that jumpsuit really leaps out. Looks comfortable and really makes a statement!
suzanne carillo says
I’m not normally a huge fan of the 80s but I fell hard for this jumpsuit. I picked it up at a vintage show.

i´m a fan!
but i only have one piece – a 60s raincoat in cheeta. it is very hard to find higher qualitiy animal print pieces around here aka eastern germany….. the people are not fancy enough for this – just 90s cheapo old lady tees in nasty polyester.
but you have found very gorgeous pieces in the last years – your new dress is no exception – such a stunning item – especially on you! wow!

suzanne carillo says
A 60s raincoat in cheetah??? Sounds like a dream coat.

What’s not to love…I think they bring out the rebel in all of us, and that’s a good thing.
I just bought a snakeskin jumpsuit, and I have a feeling I’ll be wearing it a ton. It can easily be worn for the summer, or with boots like you’ve shown here!!
XOXO

Leopard is as close as I get to beige.
It’s also a staple in my panty combos for work — I’m always on the lookout for a new leopard print! Everyone can use a little RAWR in their knickers!
The first B+W snow leopard print is MIND BENDING!
suzanne carillo says
A little RAWR in the knickers is right. Ha!
I thought you’d be impressed with that print.
Michelle says
If I thought we were the same size I’d drive to Canada to steal that jaguar dress.
suzanne carillo says
Ha! I’ve got it under lock and key now. My pug is guarding it…which basically means if you have the slightest amout of food she will hand it over, no questions asked.
Ann says
The print of that dress is so unique! I love it that it’s not just animal print but has whole jaguars in it. It’s looking gorgeous with the belt and those divine boots, and I love it with both the beret and the hat. I’m totally swooning over the orange shift dress and leopard parka! I don’t really own much animal print, just the odd item, but I do have a vintage fur which I inherited from a Great Aunt. It will make an appearance i my next post! xxx
suzanne carillo says
I don’t get as much opportunity to wear that orange shift dress. It has a great neckline on it though. It is made out of a thick polyester which is only good in the middle of winter.
Darlene Fadem says
I LOVE your collection of animal prints! After searching forever at the thrift, yesterday I FINALLY scored (what I believe to be silk) leopard print trench!

You look amazing in leopard print. As an animal print lover, these photos made my day.
suzanne carillo says
Thanks Judith! : ) I know you have quite the collection of animal prints.
Nancy says
I had to look twice to see the jaguar! I think it’s age…… Fabulous look, and I love dresses with boots!
suzanne carillo says
I’m a boot kind of gal. I just find them easier to walk in which I’m sure you understand.
Rena says
From one animal print lover to another, that dress is fabulous as is the leopard print jumpsuit. Rrrrr I recently bought a leopard print skirt on Poshmark and when it came time to put it in my closet, I realized that I’d two others recently as well. I definitely have enough of them now, that’s for sure.

What Patti said about the jaguar being hypnotic is right on the money! I just kept looking at it and seeing different images float out. At one point I thought I saw the Eiffel Tower. Another time I saw…I don’t know what! But I loved all the fun of looking at that dress. I can see why you got it–and those boots and hats are spectacular pairings!
Here’s to spring springing up around you and sweet Zoe!

Couldn’t agree more, animal print is most definately timeless . You look so good in all of your pieces , hard to pick a favourite. The black and white with the jaguar print is a stunner and you wear it beautifully.I enjoy wearing animal print, often leopard, many of my pieces are older than my children , they are late 20’s, early 30’s.
suzanne carillo says
You know you’ve made an excellent purchase when you can wear an item for 20 or 30 years.
Thanks Jill.

OOOOO, love the combination of animal print and black/white graphic. Very eyecatching. Boots are gorgeous with it. I’m always in awe of your boot collection. And as far as faux leopard fur coats, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to part with mine. One of my fav things in my closet!
Theresa
suzanne carillo says
Why should you part with such a classic piece?
Yes…I do have quite a collection of boots : )
Thanks Teresa.

what a fabulous dress, you look gorgeous!! And I totally agree that animal prints can work as a neutral and they never go out of style!, great advice on wearing it fabulously!, I love every outfit!

YES! I love animal prints- though I don’t own very many at the moment. I am currently on the lookout for a leopard print coat. I love the 60’s style one you have!
Shelley@Forestcityfashionista says
I like animal prints on other people but don’t wear them much myself. Although, that said, I like the Jaguar print on the dress, probably because it’s black and white, and I used to have a black and white snakeskin-print cotton skirt that I loved (which has long gone to another home). You’ve had some beautiful leopard print pieces in your shop and in your wardrobe.
