Breaking Style Rules Over 50
Sequinned mini skirt?
Check.

Thigh high boots?
Check.
Sheer blouse?
Check
I’m over 50 and I don’t give a flying **** what you think attitude?
Oh yeah…big check.
I bought that skirt at an outlet store years ago and there is a funny story that goes along with it way back when I shopped retail. Oddly enough I paired it with over the knee boots that time too. It must be the “Pretty Woman” in me.
Mr. T got one thing right…rules are for fools.
What was the last style rule you broke?
Linking up with the lovely Patti for Visible Monday.
oooh, so hot! The blouse is dreamy and the skirt + boots = feminine, strong and creative. xox

It’s funny because I wasn’t really sure of these boots initially but I love them now.
Exactly!!! You are living the creative dream, and we need to throw those silly rules out NOW!!
Because this look is incredible!!
XOXO

I have one rule…have fun! : P
This is like Spring in an outfit! Most welcome. Xx
I must admit I have spring on my mind. I think I have it on my mind from the first snowfall. Ha!
Love it!
Thanks Kate : )
I love this outfit, love your attitude and love that you totally rock in your high boots and sequined mini, those colors are Fabulous.
It’s like spring in an outfit! and you look Gorgeous!! Rules are made to be broken!!!
besos
The rule is to wear what we like and have fun while doing it. : P
That skirt is altogether amazing. Makes me want a sequined skirt. Maybe it’s just the 90 degree day here…but thigh-high boots sound like torture devices. I’d pair it with sandals! 😛
Yeah…90 degrees is a bit much. I can’t imagine being 9 months pregnant in that kind of weather. No wonder you love ice water so much.
spring on feet!!
hooray for breaking the rules! you look totally fab – i´m in love with the texture mixing and the colors! <3
yesterday – i wore an oversize pullover over a full midi dirndl skirt….. with flat booties! tss!
;-D
xxxx
Your outfit sounds so comfy!
Rules? What rules? Besides, I’ve always been of the opinion that rules are meant to be broken, especially when it comes to fashion! You see, I totally approve of the I’m over 50 and I don’t give a flying **** what you think attitude! Love your sequinned mini (and the funny story attached to it) and your over the knee boots and floral top are to die for! You go, girl! xxx
I can tell how much joy you get out of both searching for the treasures you wear and wearing them. It would be such a shame to give that all up because of someone else’s opinion.
is there anything more joyous of no longer giving a flying f@@k about what anyone thinks? I love that I’m that crazy looking lady I’d have been horrified by as a foetus (ie., 20 something).
I didn’t know there were any rules until I started reading blogs. I was brought up by a woman who wore leather trousers and leopard skin until the day she died!
I loved the story of your skirt, after enduring an ordeal like that it needs to be worn regularly – and it looks incredible! xxx
Ha ha! Yeah, I think my younger self would be saying, “Whatever strikes your fancy lady!” I’ve always kind of admired those that chose to stand out. Probably because I’ve dressed differently from the time I was in grade nine.
Leather trousers and leopard skin sound like a serious badass woman. What a joy to have grown up with that.
You’re rockin’ this look Suzanne and yep, who cares about those danged rules? I wouldn’t have thought that sequins could look so good in a spring outfit, but they really do. Break every rule is my advice, especially if it looks like this!

Funny enough I love wearing this skirt in the summer. I may take it to Jamaica in a few weeks too. We’ll see if it makes the cut. I’ve got quite a few dresses that I love to take and they usually win out.
I applaud your attitude. I break rules all the time. Society doesn’t want me to be wearing girl-clothes but, hey, I’m an outlaw. 🙂
I’d like to think that society has changed somewhat regarding those rules. I see so many non binary people mixing up whatever they like and wearing it out without anyone batting an eye.
I watched the series Babylon Berlin on Netflix that takes place in German in the late 1920s and they had lots of people dressing differently at that time as well. It seemed like anything went and everyone was fine with it. I loved that. I don’t know what happened when it all changed back.
I’m not sure what rules I break because I’m not really interested in learning them. I know Mum was horrified I showed the elastised section at the back of a skirt once. I wear flat shoes all the time. Ummm… I wear shorts and leggings over 50, and baggy tops with baggy pants without a care for my sillhouette!
Your outfit it very glam. I’ve never tried thigh high boots but they would hide lumpy knees well!
Ha ha! That is kind of a weird thing to get bent out of shape over, an elastic.
I do feel you are the perfect example of someone dressing for themselves. Your individuality and creativity are expressed well through your clothing choices.
I didn t know you were over 50! Never would have guessed it either! 😱😱😱😱
Great look! I think it looks way much better on ,,older,, women than on girls!
Yes, I passed the 50 mark almost 2 years ago now.
What a lovely colour those boots are. I wouldn’t wear thigh high boots but I do wear OTK boots. I wouldn’t wear a mini without leggings underneath, but I most certainly would wear the sheer blouse. It is lovely and the floral pattern is so zingy and cheerful; just what we need in the cold and damp weather here.
You look fab in your outfit, Suzanne!
I normally don’t buy Zara or fast fashion pieces when I thrift but the design on this blouse was too good to pass up.
Suzanne,
I have that very Zara blouse and it’s on my bed waiting to be styled soon. Love it!! This soft, feminine outfit looks beautiful on you ! I’m all for wearing mini skirts too. Rules, schmules😁

Did you manage to scoop up your Zara blouse thrifting too?
You certainly have the legs for mini skirts Jess.
You are like sparkling Spring rain Suzanne!! I bet putting these items together gave you a little thrill because that’s what it’s doing for me! There’s gloriousness here! 🙂
Fashion rules just piss me off. I’ll admit to occasionally looking at myself in the mirror and wondering, “can I pull this off?” Actually perhaps that’s my only rule? If something doesn’t look good in proportion, color, texture, fit and comfort then it doesn’t work for “me” but I’m absolutely going to rebel against restraints on my creativity and fun!!!
Suzanne, you look AMAZING from head to toe! Your outfit is lovely, but your hair is incredible! Such a pretty color and ombré.

This outfit is absolutely fantastic. And I completely agree that within reason, rules should be broken, or used as loose guidelines. . I think we should wear what we love, first and foremost. When I saw this outfit on Instagram I was immediately wowed! I adore the sequined skirt and boots. That is one trend, that I don’t think I could pull off, but kudos to you for succeeding so brilliantly!
❤️❤️❤️

The last “rule”I broke is an American rule: never wear white after… whenever. Never heard such nonsense. So I wore white jeans last week. And sequins to the office. And boyfriend jeans with sneakers being 63. Hah. The lovely thing of getting older… as you say, I don’t give a xxxx.

Rad. Couldn’t have said it better. Haters gunna hate, y’all. ;D

Rules are made to be broken! At least the ones related to what not to wear. Sequins are for any time of day, any day of the week.
