Decorated Bar For Christmas
I know the tree used to be the place we’d hang out as kids at Christmas, but now, as adults I think the bar is where it’s at.
It is the only thing I’d planned on decorating for Christmas to be honest.
Priorities people.
If you’re looking for the vodka and champagne, the vodka is always in the freezer and the champagne is in the fridge.
What can I get you?
If you have signed up for my newsletter the Merry and Bright sign as well as the card below will be gifts for you this week.
I like to give my readers presents.
Not just for Christmas either, every month.
Of course once I brought the decorations up from the basement the rest of the house looked weird not decorated.
I felt obligated to continue the madness.
We haven’t had a real tree for years. We often don’t buy presents and seeing a tree with no presents under it was sad so we stopped doing the tree.
This year I did bring up the stockings. Maybe they will actually get filled this year.
I’m doubtful as Mr. S informed me that my husband is definately on the naughty list.
I did all this decorating plus I hung multiple multicoloured light strings in the dining room and when the husband came home it took him a while to notice anything was different in the house.
{Sigh}
I think that I could easily have a stunt double fill in for me and the husband wouldn’t notice for the first week.
I told you…
naughty list.
He is the polar opposite of me. I’m very detail oriented. When I walk into a room I will notice if there is an insect in the corner or something has been moved. Is that a female thing? Or am I just OCD?
Are you hanging out at the bar, the stockings or the tree this Christmas?
Maybe you don’t even celebrate Christmas. In which case…I’ll meet you at the bar.
If you want to see how I made that garland, pop over here.
Linking up with Creating Christmas Silver And Gold Visible Monday
Beautiful! I love white and gold and silver for Christmas. And LOL at your husband not being observant. I often play the “when will he notice?” game at our house. E.g., furniture moved, new hair color, or I trashed his holey tee shirts. I do have OCD but I think this is a mostly-male, I don’t pay attention thing. xox

Ah ha. Here I though it was just “my male.”
Well, I LOVE your Christmas decorating Suzanne! Your vignettes are both pretty and whimsical. I particularly love the deer’s heart sweater ’cause…hearts…on a deer. We’re not big on big gifts…so I guess I’ll be meeting you at the bar dahling!
I know that deer is fun : ) Well almost any animal wearing a hand knit sweater is adorable.
I once saw a lady that knit sweaters for her chickens in the winter! it was so precious!
Well, you gave me a good laugh! What I think is funny is when I have something out for quite a while and then months later hubby asks if it’s new. lol! Not a drinker, but I would be happy to have a soda from that fabulous bar. Love all of your gorgeous gold and silver décor! Hopped over from Trinas. Thanks fro joining Creating Christmas!
hugs,
Jann
Oh my husband does that all the time too! He often thinks he is catching me buying something new and not telling him about it.
Thanks for popping by!
Before we had kids, we only had a very small Christmas tree (like a foot tall) and it was perfect. Now our house if filled with fun kiddie Christmas decor and I love how inviting it feels. I love your pretty holiday decorations!

Kids of course make all the difference at Christmas. I was thinking of renting a couple one year just for fun. (JOKING!) Ha ; P
Gorgeous decs! Of course.
I laughed at the not noticing male…I have two here!
We are hanging at the tree, if I can get it to stand up. Currently leaning drunkenly in the corner.
My kids are getting pressies, and I gave myself a new-to-me camera. My first DSLR. Can’t wait to be allowed to use it…the kids are hiding it 🙂

Also, congrats on your award from Ally.
Highly deserved! Xo Jazzy Jack
Thank you!
Oooh…a camera is a great gift idea.
We used to have the drunken tree issue when we bought real trees. Now I just have the drunken husband issue. {wink}
Hahaha! I love the Merry and Bright sign above the bar. Great image: adults huddled around the bar gazing with hopeful twinkling eyes at the booze selection. The lighting looks good too so I bet you could get some fabulous drunken selfies there.
Well, even if Mister has been naughty, you have not and I recommend extra-extra-extra large stockings for you and Zoe. I mean, just look at that fabulous decorating.
Beautiful home, Suzanne. We notice (even if you did put it on your blog specifically). No tree here.
I think I need a stocking I can fit into ; P
The size of a sleeping bag.
Beautiful decorating. Cute cards. You’re right about the gender difference in perception: science has confirmed that women are more visually attentive. They notice more. So much in fact that urban public planners use women as guides for maintaining public parks. Women notice “visual disorder” (signs of inadequate maintenance) while men don’t.
This is so interesting. I wonder how that relates to male evolution. There must be some reason for it.
I love your Christmas decorations! We barely have any so I really need to buy more! My entire family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) all gets together for a few days at Christmas and you can bet the bar is the first thing to get decorated! lol. All my aunts bring festive drinking glasses for everyone too.

I highly recommend going to estate sales for Christmas items. There are TONS of really cute vintage finds to be had for a steal. Thrift shops too often carry Christmas decorations.
I’ll first make a bee-line for the bar because you are a spectacular host with your champagne and vodka – my too favourite alcoholic drinks! Then I shall go and sit under the Christmas tree and gaze up at the lights. Ever since I was a nipper, I’ve just had a thing about Christmas tree lights. I used to love sitting under the giant tree we would have at home, main lights off, tree lights on and imagine I was in a magical land!
It not OCD – my husband is EXACTLY the same!!!

Ah…men!
Vodka and champagne? I knew you and I would get along : )
I love your Christmas decorations! I’m having a hard time getting in the spirit this year. It’s so much work to put up a tree. Any they’re expensive too! I like the idea of decorating the bar. I mostly drink wine so perhaps I should decorate the refrigerator.
Ha! Great idea!
Wrap some tinsel around the handle of the fridge, pour yourself a glass and call it a day. The holidays aren’t about the decorating anyhow. They’re about the drinking. Oooops…I meant they about special memories shared with family and friends. ; P
Those owls! I love them. It all looks very pretty and I can’t believe Mr C didn’t notice, he was obviously far too distracted by his hot wife.
There’s no room on my bar for decoration. It’s over-loaded with birthday booze! xxx
That sounds like a bar I’d like to inspect for myself ; P
The naughty list one, hahaha, I had to smile 🙂 Hope your husband gets on the good ones’ list soon 🙂 I guess that the detail orientation is pretty much a female thing, in my opinion… I used to be that way, but now I don’t know how, I started getting less so. But as far as I know, every man, and I was raised up with 2 brothers, are this way – you can be with a yellow dress with them, you go to the toilet and come with a black dress and they won’t notice it 🙂 Exaggerating, but well, sometimes it is this way 🙂

All the details and nuances that men are missing in life…
Your mantel and your bar look lovely! You’ve chosen a very elegant colour scheme. I think that in general, women are more detail-oriented than men so don’t be too hard on R. for not noticing the decorations.
No tree here (no room) and no fireplace mantel to decorate as I had in my previous apartment, so other than a wreath on the front door, there is no decorating happening here. I don’t really celebrate Christmas but I like the decorations.
Have you ever considered Petsmart photos with Santa for your rats? Man! I’d love to see that! ; P
You are so wonderfully stylish! I love this! And all the owls! xx
Owls became my obsession last year. Every year I add a bit to my collection. Seems like I am a collector of quite a few things now that I think about it. I prefer the word collector over hoarder.
Are you sure Robert doesn’t need glasses?
Greetje
Ha ha! So funny you wrote this because he did just get glasses! They look fantastic on him. BUT that wasn’t the reason he didn’t see all my decorations. Very few men pay attention to details like Ron does. I think that is partly because having a creative mind means you see everything.
I don’t know whether that is true. I did a test called MBTI (Meyer Briggs.. Etc something). Which showed that people who are good in thinking up concepts, see hardly any details. Me, on the contrary, saw every detail and I suck at thinking creatively and concepts.
The bar is definitely where it’s at! In fact, I have a bar cart on my Christmas list this year. I already have all the barware and liquor. It seems a shame to keep it all stocked away in the cupboard! And I love all your silver and gold decor with the hoo-hoo of owls in the mix. It’s another pastel and tinsel Christmas around here!

I saw some bar carts at HomeSense recently (TJ Maxx home store in Canada). The place where you can really score some great ones are at estate sales though. Vintage carts that are fantastic! I’ve wanted to bring some home but just how many bars do I need in my house? Don’t ask my husband that.
Oh, girllllllllllll, you cracked me up with this one. First off, I’ll have a glass of champagne, s’il te plait. Thanks so much. Now, about the decorating . . . I’m with you on this one. I do decorate, but a mere fraction of what I once did. In fact, the first year I downsized I went through all my boxes and took just the ornaments and things I liked best. I put these in one box and wrote on the side ‘Christmas Lite’. This is what I use to decorate now. I do have a small tree, I do the fireplace mantle, and dining room buffet, but it’s all easy up and down in a couple of hours. This suits me. Your garland is stunning, by the way.
Ah…the bon French way…champagne all the way, all the time : )
I love the idea of Christmas lite, which really is kind of what I do. I find the fussiest thing was always all the little ornaments on the tree. Eliminating that reduces the amount of time dramatically.
Ok, you know you can or should be writing a weekly or daily column in a paper or magazine, right? You are the most entertaining and well written blogger out there. And did Robert seriously not notice? Shame on him, guess he’s band from the bar tonight, right?
I will admit the older I get the less I enjoy putting out all my decorations but then my grown kids call and say things like “is the big tree up yet” “have you got the fun tree up” and I give in. But now I have Miss Molly coming so I guess its worth it, right? But Par just calls while I’m decorating and says “your still decorating?” Yea, you climb up and down this damn ladder 100 times and see how fast you get the tree done. I’m quite certain I would love to join you at the bar (I know you could mix some sort of nonalcoholic drink for me). Anyhow, your house is decorated quite lovely and with great style, I would really like to transport your mantle here. By the way, since my home is seriously all decked why don’t you and Robert just come for a fun visit?
Awww…you are a sweetie Trina : )
When I saw your massive tree I wondered how difficult it was to decorate. That is the kind of decorating that takes an entire team. Miss Molly will have those memories embedded in her consciousness for the rest of her life though…so totally worth all the pain the butt of doing it. It truly does make a home look so inviting.
Oooh…we would love to come and visit. Sadly I will be in BC due to a family illness and then Robert will be heading to France for a bit to visit his family and brand new niece. Rain check though okay?
And don’t worry, due to my allergies I’m totally off the alcohol, (depressing as Hell!) so you and I will hang out together as proper sober folks ; P
This is so pretty. A bar is far more important this time of year than a tree. Cheers to that. I knew you were my kinda girl. Vodka in the freezer and champagne in the fridge. My two favs as well.
You have some great taste lady : )
I’m so impressed that you have a bar! I have a box of wine next to the fridge. But we did just put up our Christmas tree (fake, but it’s pretty). We also don’t have much to put under it, but I still like to have a tree.
Ha! Boxes of wine, that brings back memories ; )
At the bar for sure on a beach somewhere in Australia. No Christmas decorations in my house and I will do my best to avoid the endless Christmas music in shops (by not shopping). Can you tell I’m not a big fan of Christmas…. Your decorations look gorgeous though!
I am with you on the Christmas music. I like Christmas music on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and then I’m good for another 365 days.
I’ll be thinking of you having a BBQ on the beach : )
Lovely Christmas decorations! Your bar is now ready for the incoming festivities …
Your decorations are lovely. My husband has no eye for details and I usually have to point everything out to him. In my younger days I loved decorating the house, but as I get older it’s just so much work!
It is true the older I get the less energy I seem to have for these kinds of things. I often used to create theme parties that included complicated meals, decorations and even costumes sometimes. Now when I think back on it I wonder how I managed.
Oh, I like your decorations (I’m a sucker for gold and white (or black)). What an interesting take on why to have/not have a tree. I can really see that point, but I do see that.
I only started getting into the gold, white and silver when we switched our mantel to white. Otherwise my Christmas collection was very bright traditional whimsical pieces.
I know one of these years we’ll decide to have a tree again and when we do we’ll really appreciate it.
Happy Holidays dear!
