I’ve become obsessed with velvet lately. Velvet jackets to be specific.
I’ve owned this black velvet jacket from Anthropologie for ages.
A red one I scored from Altuzarra when Target was still in Canada.
I found this orange one at TJ Maxx.
A recent Façonnable thrift find in blue.
Another orange thrift discovery that I haven’t featured yet but which I adore.
This green one that I featured here and haven’t shown on the blog yet, but here is a peek…
I almost forgot about this vintage velvet coat bought at an estate sale…
And finally because I’m obviously totally insane, this recent consignment find by Johnny Was
I love that clothing line but could never afford it. Thanks to consignment shopping and an extra 40% off for Black Friday this lovely is now part of my collection.
Collecting velvet jackets is a totally normal hobby.
Just like collecting toenail clippings of famous people. Only cleaner, softer and much more practical.
See? I can justify anything.
I will admit that part of the reason I bought this velvet jacket was because it reminded me of what this guy wears…
I know Hugh Hefner isn’t exactly a style icon, but who else do you know that can look this good while walking around in PJs all day?
Not this lady…
Although those 70’s totally-on-trend-boots and the oversized cat accessory are an edgy and adventurous choice when juxtaposed with the whimsical pastel unicorns, rainbows and Care Bear patterned PJs . That massive box of Cheetos as a handbag is blowing my mind. Extra points for her boots matching her cat accessory. Bravo!
You’ll be seeing this whole look on the Karl Largerfeld Winter 2017 collection.
In fact he is wearing it around town already. Of course he has the understated ponytail in place of the hair clip and some studded leather driving gloves. It doesn’t feel right without the super-sized box of Cheetos though.
Have you ever gone out of the house wearing your velvet jacket PJs?
A special shout-out to the wonderful Ally for choosing me for her annual bloggy award. Thanks a bunch lady! I’ll be sending you a wonderful Cheetos handbag in the mail.
A brief addendum to this post…I thrifted a floor length double breasted vintage bold blue velvet coat yesterday! I tried it on while wearing this dress and I felt like a movie star! My collection is growing.
Linking up with Visible Monday Turning Heads Tuesday I Will Wear What I Like
LOL to Hugh Hefner wearing PJs all day! And you rock it in suede Suzanne – Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays Rebecca!
I do love a bit of velvet! That red one with the slouchy pockets is utterly fabulous.
My own favourite is a turquoise floor length opera coat trimmed with marabou feathers which leaves a trail of fluff wherever I go.
A cat is the ultimate fashion accessory but ours won’t play nicely and refuse to be carried further than the front door, spoilsports
. xxxx
Ha! Unlike my pug accessory who is delighted to be carried around as long as treats are involved.
love this collection! your burgundy coat is awesome (as is Hef’s). I have a long double breasted velvet navy coat that I adore – but only get to wear twice a year : < xox

Normally I’d be playing an imaginary violin for you and then begging to come down your way for a visit, but this year we are having an abnormally warm December. I’m keeping my fingers crossed it can last till March.
well, that’s my kind of hobbie! a girl can’t have too much velvet in her wardrobe, as I’m concerned, nor too many fabulous jewel tones!. I’m absolutely enthusiastic!, such a covetable collection, it’s difficult to pick a favorite!! orange, more orange, red, green and now red burgundy luxurious color!, and there’s a blue long coat too!!! for sure you look like a rock star wearing it!!
And yes, I went outside in my pyjamas (many times), but they were tartan pyjama pants and a t-shirt and nobody noticed (or that is what I thought). I even went to a party in some kind of vintage nightie (no pictures, sorry!).
besos & risas
I’m with you all the way on the jewel tones. I notice that you and I have very similar colour tastes.
Ha! Tartan PJs. You MUST take a selfie next time. Promise?
The closest I’ve gotten is wearing a toga to a toga party.
We all need a friend like you who gives us a licence to buy loads more velvet. It’s impossible not to love all of these jackets, and I’m sure you do love them equally as they’re so beautiful. Being a redhead like you I favour the green, but also the orange (both). It’s a dizzying sight and I’m full of envy. Please let me know if you get to the stage where you need to re-house any of them as I’m sure I can help you out.

I have a feeling that we might be the same size ( you might even be smaller than me) so yeah…I’ll keep you in mind should I need to clear out some velvet further down the road. In the meantime, should I spot anything I think you’d look fabulous in while thrifting I’ll keep you in mind as well. I seem to be stumbling across loads of velvet lately.
hehe really enjoyed this post! loving the velvet texture and all the styles you have.

I may need to start attending VAA Velvet Addict Anonymous soon.
You have quite the collection of velvet jackets! You look great in all of them! I really like the Johnny Was jacket – it looks great and seems so comfortable… 🙂
It is SO comfortable! Really it is like wearing PJs.
You will the best award for having a great collection of velvet jackets. I love your new olive green one and cant’ wait to see how you style it. I have 1 velvet jacket in burgundy and feel like I can only wear it during the holidays so I don’t want to buy another one.
Remember Juicy sweat outfits? I can say that I’ve worn those velvet looking ones out in public and loved it!

I often wear pyjama pants as Summer pants and receive compliments. I also wear velvet pants that look like PJs and a long kimono that looks like a dressinggown, but a glamorous one!
Loving all your collection. Totally understandable! Xo Jazzy Jack
Velvet pants that look like PJs? I’m intrigued! It all sounds so “dressing gown glamorous”.
You have a lovely collection of jackets, so many colours. Lovely! xx
Yes…I’m a bit crazy. Ha!
Oh that last red kimono coat is perfect !!! And how well does it look with those over-the-knee boots. I bought a long vervet jacket, fitted. Also thrifted. Fits like a glove but it feels somehow outdated. It is a beautiful shade of red though. Hmmm.
Perhaps my reluctance has something to do with the fact that velvet never sits structured. Always a bit messy. And I am not a messy clothes person.
You have an impressive collection my dear.
Laughed out loud over your PJ-lady in the store. Somehow I cannot see Karl adopting this. And no I have never gone to the supermarket in my PJ’s.
Greetje
I know what you mean about the “dishevelled” look of some velvet. Especially if it is crushed velvet. Several of my blazers and jackets are like that and normally I prefer the more structured versions.
I am grooving on the more boho relaxed look right now though. Kind of good since it doesn’t accentuate the extra weight that managed to sneak up on my lately.
🙂 Hi there!
Found you through the How I Wear My: Brooch project.
The bumble bee is so cute! Adore the way you wear it.
I’m following you now – really like your style and your ideas.
Have a very HAPPY week and greetings from Vienna 🙂
Hi Happy Face! What a great name : )
I’ve always wanted to visit Vienna especially during carnival but have never gotten there. One day maybe.
Thanks for popping by!
You could be a Bond girl – your name would be the Velvet Vixen! The shape on the little fitted orange one, and the green short one are purrrrrrfect, and so flattering. I would have scooped up that red slouchy one too, so good thing I wasn’t there. Can’t wait to see the latest addition! I used to have a gorgeous floor length emerald green velvet coat that I foolishly sold years ago that would have looked fabulous on you, sigh. I have a blue velvet knee length coat, and a short, fitted black velvet one with big cuffs that was a gift from a blogger friend; a mere velvet pittance in comparison to your collection.
GAH! Don’t tell me stories like that Shelley! : ( Ah well…my collection is slowly taking over my house, maybe it is for the best.
Let’s make a note when we meet up we can’t both show up in velvet. Or maybe…we should! Ha ha!
I never noticed you’ve featured so many velvet blazers on here before- lol. Though each looks amazing (and that olive green one? Swoon!)
That green one is from Mod Cloth. It is a tad tight but I do love the colour and the cut.
A Cheetos handbag?! Where have I been? Why don’t I have one already?!
Truly Suzanne, you were made for velvet – you ARE a star! I can’t wait to see that maxi number you just bought. And it’s double-breasted, which makes it twice as good as the uni-breasted kind. The greeny velvet is spectacular on you too, well, they all are.
Congratulations on your award. Here’s to many more. I’ll toast you at the Christmas bar. Heh.
I think I saw you have a danish handbag, or is that a TimBits handbag? You are so much more demure in your handbag choices.
I love velvet — it’s such a sensuous material. It looks especially good on you.
Thanks for the mention. You’re sweet!
Do you own any velvet? I agree, it is very sensual.
Haha – Hugh Hefner! He always looks so comfy. I have a very old plum colored velvet blazer that is my favorite. I need to pull that out!
Well Hugh had to be ready for “whatever” right? ; )
Oooh…plum would be so great on you!
OMG that velvet jacket is stunning! Love the whole collection!
Darlene
Have you been coming across loads of velvet in your thrifting adventures? Mind you, with your weather you might not wear so much velvet.
I went on a thriftventure yesterday and saw several velvet blazers and I thought of you each time. 🙂
You look stunning in each!!! Velvet suits you.
Aw thanks lady!
I so love the Hugh Hefner velvet coat…I actually think I might have drooled a bit. While I don’t yet own the giant Cheetos handbag I do often sport my Oreo clutch. But only with my pj’s. And only at Walmart.
Debbie

Ha! I want to see you sporting that Oreo clutch on your blog : P
Suzanne,
You’ve got quite the collection of velvet jackets. I love the red one with the fitted waist! I used to have a black one which got me through so many holiday seasons and then I moved and somehow it got lost!
I miss it so much!
http://www.districthilo.com
Love, Mary
That is disappointing.
I love velvet as well, dear Suzanne, and I loved the black velvet jacket, the burgundy one you bought that reminded you of Hugh Hefner 🙂 and the green one, too! You look amazing wearing velvet, and I think it’s elegant, chic, also feminine with an edgy touch, somehow! You look lovely in every outfit! Bisous!

Thanks Denise : )
velvet all day long 😉
http://www.stylentonic.com
You must own a velvet smoking jacket…right? It’d suit you to a tee : )
Velvet all day long! xxx

I love velvet as well- it’s such a beautiful material. The burgundy is such a gorgeous colour and I really love the black velvet jacket. I actually have one, but have always played it safe, pairing it with jeans and a classic cream shirt but it looks absolutely stunning with the floral shirt! 🙂
http://www.thevelvetrunway.com
There’s absolutely nothing odd about having a velvet collection! You have some fabulous pieces, gorgeous colours and of course you style them beautifully. You’ve reminded me, I have a velvet maxi skirt which needs an outing soon! xxx
WOW you have a great collection of velvet. I love wearing it, but don;t see much of it except this time of year. The toe nail clippping comment gave me a small pause. Too funny
I christen this post – ‘The Utterly Swoonable Post’ because of the luxuriousness of all that velvet. Velvety, velvety heaven! Of course they’re all keepers BUT if you ever thought of sending that Red Jacket from Altuzarra with those gorgeous lapels, there’s a velvety, velvety lover this side of the pond who would sing it to sleep every night!
