One of my latest thrifting acquisitions reminds me of a very old Anthropologie skirt I own
Except this thrifted horse skirt cost me $7.
I just realized that everything in this outfit is thrifted or bought via consignment except the turtleneck.
The burnt orange velvet structured blazer has a wonderful cut and shape.
The suede lace up boots are Michael Kors and look like they’ve been worn twice.
When one of my nieces fits into this skirt I might have to gift it to her. They are both huge horse lovers and skilled riders as well.
Neither one of my nieces are remotely interested in fashion. One is interested in books, the other sports. Both of them are interested in art and pugs though.
What personal characteristics would you like to pass onto your family members?

I love that skirt- it is novel and yet feels a bit classic and classy.

What a cute, unusual skirt. And the boots are beautiful. You must have great thrift-stores near you to find such wonderful clothes. When I visit Toronto next year (it’s planned!), I’ll ask you for store-recommendations.

Oooh! You must give me the details! I want to make sure I’m here to show you around. Is Robin coming? So excited!

That’s a great skirt! And the boots are fabulous, too!
I would love to check out thrift stores again, but I also want to only buy what I need and love next year. I think if I’m very selective when I’m thrifting that can be done… We’ll see…

I agree, when thrifting it is very hard not to be persuaded to buy items we don’t truly need when they are very inexpensive and cool. You need to shop with a partner that keeps you on track, not an enabler like my husband ; )

You look great. xx The horse skirt looks so stylish. I like it a lot, I love the idea of the black skirt and the print on top.

I love the colours in the second outfit with your hair!
That’s one lucky niece.
My velvet PJ pants are in this post http://naturalmedley.blogspot.com.au/2014/10/favourite-print.html

That skirt is fantastic, what a fab print. It looks wonderful on you but if it fits your niece and she’s a horse lover it is good karma to pass it on. Those boots are gorgeous!
There’s only one surviving member of my family, my brother. As a 6 foot six inch body builder he definitely wouldn’t appreciate any of my clothes (but might benefit from my cheery personality, he’s inclined to be grumpy!) xxx

That is one cool skirt! I love pieces like this with their own personality and story. I hope to pass to my nieces my radical progressive views, but their parents are thwarting me! xox

The print on both skirts is fantastic. I like that both skirts make use of negative space to accentuate the artwork. Really awesome!

Horsey fun! I love the skirt. I am scared of horses in real life though, so I tend not to go for horse-print on anything! x

The colour of the blazer matches the one horse on your skirt perfectly! I think that was one of my favourite jackets from your velvet collection. Enjoy the skirt til one of your nieces grow into it, then pass it on. I occasionally worry what will happen to my wardrobe when I’m gone, as I have no family members to pass it on to. I’m hoping I’m around long enough to wear everything til it falls apart or I get tired of it.

That’s a great skirt, and look how well it works with velvet and suede – perfection!
Oh I don’t want to pass on any particular traits to my kids – they are their own creations, and I see characteristics and skills in them which I definitely don’t have. xxx

Love the skirt(s)! Your latest horse acquisition is great and looks wonderful as you’ve styled it.

fabulous skirt!, love how it matches your pretty jacket (it fits you like a dream!) and that scarf and boots, such an amazing ‘riding club’ vibe with a twist!, elegant and cool!
I would love to share my love for books with my nieces, so I always buy books for them (typical intellectual auntie as I’m) instead of toys!.

Oooooh , here’s that beautiful velvet jacket again , and paired with this fabulous skirt. I love the odd, the quirky, the quaint and you can only find these things in charity shops. And what about those boots!? They’re sensational Suzanne (what shoe size did you happen to say you are? hahaha)
Tell me, is your camera on a tripod, and if so what height is it? You seem to have found the sweet spot where you look tall.

Great skirt (both new & older one). It’s funny you mention about passing personal traits. The other night my husband commented on my impatience and who did I get that from (my dad) and how he hopes it does not pass down to my son. My son is very happy go lucky just like me.

Those boots, that skirt, the cut of the jacket, those boots, that skirt, the cut of the jacket – ee gods, woman, where do I start with this post? Too much awesomeness that I’ll just have to go and lie down.
Did I mention those boots? Oh yes, I did. Where’s that warm flannel for my forehead?

That skirt…those boots…that jacket…great scores!!!

That skirt combined with the jacket makes an extraordinary combination. Beautiful. The boots are also excellent. What a great outfit.
And I do not pass on anything to my nieces or stepdaughter. Perhaps they will even refrain from styling as they might not want to look like their crazy aunt.
