Hello – Goodbye DIY Painted T-shirt
Why waste time opening your mouth when your t-shirt can communicate for you?
All you need is a t-shirt (striped if you like), acrylic paint and a small paint brush.
I sketched out the size of the lettering on paper just so I had an idea before I painted on the shirt. When you paint with acrylic on fabric it never comes off. You’ve been warned!
Insert a piece of cardboard behind your t-shirt so the paint doesn’t bleed through to the other side. I also pinned it down so the fabric wouldn’t move while I was painting.
Go slowly, you can build up your paint. I was just barely able to see the paint when I first painted the word on. I went back over it several times.
You can wash your new t-shirt like normal.
I took the inspiration for this DIY from this sweater. Writing the words in French would have been cute too.
I wish I had photos of the jean jackets I’ve painted in the past. One had Jim Morrison painted on the inside. I should never have sold it.
Now isn’t that a great idea! And it turned out very well. Phooey, I would have liked to see those jean jackets, too. Are you familiar with the artist/craftswoman Alisa Burke? This reminds me of something she would do. She’s always painting on clothing (tshirts, jean jackets, etc.).
I had never heard of Alisa Burke but am now following her. The weird thing is that I drew a floral paper years ago that looks so similar to her painted walls. Freaky.
So glad you made a new discovery. I do indeed think you have complementary styles.
Great thinking, I love this talking shirt. How I would love to see your Jim Morrison jacket, he was the sexiest man alive, while he was alive.
Later in life I think he lost most of that. Such a shame.
agreed
such a nice t-shirt, lovely and easy DIY! and fabulous shoes too!
Would love to see that painted jean jacket!
besos
I held onto some of my painted jeans, but otherwise all of my other pieces sold years ago.
So cute and clever. I’ll bet this friendly shirt will make you lots of friends. Come on Baby, light my fire and Please make another Jim Morrison jacket!
Very fun tee and so LOVE those oxfords!

Would love to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
I wish I could wear them more often. They bother my PF.
Oh, I can definitely appreciate how much time and care went into painting those words so vividly. I’m sure you needed to reward yourself afterwards. Heh.
Yes, well, if I put on my shirt what comes out of my mouth I would be in trouble. At least when it’s words I can deny, deny, deny. A shirt is Evidence!
I love this project, Suzanne. Plus you saved yourself tons of moolah. Win, win, win. I would LOVE to see a painted jean jacket.
A great idea, you’re an artist. I like the end result and I like your look, so basic and so pretty. The shoes are cute.
I love your DIY! That tee shirt makeover is just brilliant, transforming an off-the-peg garment into something uniquely you. I’m a bit in love with your brogues and I can’t believe you parted with the Jim Morrison marvel. xxx
Believe me, it was a sad day when I sold that jacket.
You are so clever and talented, Suzanne. And witty, I might add. Love this tee!
Beautiful job!
Not easy painting fabric. Gorgeous font!
Will strangers start saying hello to you?
