My girlfriend and I went out to a Lindy Hop dance about 10 days ago.
We had 2 lessons beforehand…a Charleston and a Swing.
I found the Charleston quite difficult, the basic step has a hesitation in it which is kind of strange. The Swing I'd taken before so I didn't feel quite so inept.
It was so much fun but it was like an oven. It is in an old building, looks like an old school or rec center without any air conditioning. Since Toronto is known for humid hot weather in the summer it was like dancing in a sauna. Lots of the guys brought a second shirt to change into, but they could have changed 10 times that night and still looked like they'd just stepped out of the shower. A great way to loose weight!
I literally had to go and stand outside for 15 minutes before the 1st lesson was done because I was dripping. Not super attractive when you are changing partners every 2 minutes.
After the lessons they had a live band and Lindy Hop dance.
Some of the dancers were dressed up.
The band was excellent. The theme for the evening was Gilligan's Island…thus the weird outfit.
One of the things I loved about the dance was the variety of people and ages.
In Lindy Hop it seems anything goes. There was tons of freestylin' and people going so crazy and wild that you really needed to watch on the dance floor that you didn't get hit.
Here is Hazel getting her groove on.
Needless to say I am now looking for Lindy Hop lessons out by where I live.
You'll get a better idea with the video below…
ha! looks like so much fun
Wow does that look FUN!! Unfortunately my hubby is a total spaz at dancing-LOL
I love dance! Right now watching SYTYCD. I’ve seen the pros dancing the Lindy Hop and it moves brightly.
That looks like so much fun! I’ve always wanted to take some dancing classes, but the ones I’ve found are quite expensive and not as advanced as I’d like them to be. I did some ballroom dancing when I was little and still have dreams about it almost every night decades later. Quitting it is my biggest regret in life.
Oh how fun! The Boy and I are both very into dancing. I really want to learn how to Charleston though! We do know some swing dancing, though it is Eastern Swing (both Single Lindy and Triple Lindy). We like to go to dance events though here there is a lot more variety in what dances people do too.
It is fun tos see a mix of ages. I love that dance is something you can still do even 70 or 80 years old.
Sounds like you had such a great time!
that looks like so much fun! I’ve always wanted to try this.
xo,

A Gilligan’s Island theme?? How awesome! I think I’ve only done Lindy Hop once, but I’d like to try it again.
Dancing is always such a fun way to exercise. Wished I had rhythm and coordination to do it more often. We do Just Dance at home (totally not the same) but the whole family has so much fun. I have a friend that is really into Lindy Hop and he always talks about how fun he has.

YAAAAAAAYY!! So glad you got to go dancing! Note: I struggle with Charleston too. I don’t know why cause technically it seems like it would be easier…
Anyhoos, I hope you absolutely find dancing lessons where you are and then maybe we could meet at an event sometime!
