This is it.
She says she only wore it once, when she was sixteen. I'm so very happy she hung onto it for all these years. I'm sure she never expected to see her daughter walking around wearing it.
If only my Mom knew how to work a computer I would be able to show you photos of her wearing it. Sadly I have given up on the hope that one day my parents would become tech savvy. Although Mom did mention that they bought a new digital camera that can be "hooked up to the computer". What happens after it is "hooked up to the computer" I would imagine might be a problem.
I liken this to learning a language with tapes and phrases. You memorize all the phrases and all the responses diligently. Upon visiting that country you confidently ask someone "where is the post office?" You are totally shocked when their reply is not remotely what was said on the language tape and you are totally screwed.
I reckon my parents hooking their new camera up to their old computer that they still don't understand will be a bit like that. {sigh}
There is a sheer overlay with a slightly cream pattern on it. It is so unusual and pretty. Also it makes the white less drastic against my skin tone and doesn't wash me out as much.
The bag is vintage, picked up at an estate sale and the earrings are Anthropologie.

My Grandma sewed this dress for my Mom. How cool is it to be walking around with 3 generations of women stitched into one dress? I feel so lucky that;
a) I can fit in it
b) it's totally in style
c) it's like wrapping myself in my family history, I feel so connected to my Mom and Grandma when I wear it.
My Mom says she only wore it once because it was too close to looking like a wedding dress. I don't see a problem wearing it in the summer though, as long as I don't add my veil and tiara LOL.
Do you have any special pieces of clothing in your family that hold dear memories?
If you could wear any dress or clothing from a member of your family what would it be and who would it have belonged to?

Beautiful ! Love the story behind the dress.
Not only is this a beautiful dress, but the story of it is so touching. You look stunning!
blue hue wonderland
Such a beautiful dress with a beautiful story to tell…you look so chic!
Beautiful dress, and history. You look wonderful. I don’t have any special clothing, but I have the wedding band my father gave my mother in 1954 and I really love wearing it. Thanks for sharing with Vis Monday!
You look beautiful. Hope you are staying well. Miss you!
What a sweet dress! That is amazing connection and so much love through one garment! Thank you for sharing this! xo
What a story! I absolutely love it!!! And although it’s old and filled with history, it looks new and completely in style. How amazing to be able to share in such a family tradition that hopefully can keep being shared!
Such simple yet sophisticated style 🙂 You look fab!
If you have a sec, hope you can drop by my blog too and read my latest: http://www.fashchronicles.blogspot.com
Love the story behind this dress. Def not wedding like and I really like it with the pink accents! I don’t own any clothing that has any family history, my parents grew up in China and Hong Kong in very turbulent times lost a lot personal goods.

You look just like a perfect angelic princess. I love you description (wording) of wrapping yourself in family history. I wear my grandmother’s gloves and vintage hats all the time.
Gorgeous dress, and great history too! My dad is so technologically inept, I was trying to show him how to log onto his gmail account online and he was typing the address into the search bar on his desktop finder instead of the browser. But then he skyped me on his phone from the middle of the Pyrenees! So anything is possible and you might get your mum’s photos one day too…
That’s so, so, so awesome that you are able to wear your Mom’s dress–and such a pretty one at that!
Love this dress, very romantic and feminine! Great accessories! Suzanne, you look very beautiful!

A wedding band is a fantastic memento.
This year has been bad for family illness unfortunately. Robert, Zoe and now me.
Hope you and yours are doing well! Miss you too : )
It really makes the piece so much more special when you know the history behind it. I know you are a big fan of that as well.
Thanks for popping by Gabriala : )
Thanks for popping by Chloe & Kim…whichever one of you this is ; P
I will need to see if one of my nieces will want to keep the tradition going in a few years. I sure hope they will.
Thanks for stopping by Abby : )
That is so sad. It must have been difficult for them.
That is just so cool that you wear your Grandma’s gloves and hats. I love that! So great that they were kept in the family.
If only I could get my Dad to even pick up his cell phone! LOL I still think he doesn’t know how to get the messages off it.
Thanks Rachel : )
Thanks Olga : )
Thanks Natalie. That clutch was a last minute grab at an estate sale. I’m glad I got it though.
Thanks for stopping by Sunny : )
It’s a beautiful dress! And you look great in it. There are so many ways you can wear it! Beautiful!
Some things just don’t go out of style, and that dress proves that you have the eye for them! Lovely of your mom to pass it down … so pretty on you. You look so happy and beautiful in it. Know your mom is proud.
However, it’s probably a mistake for you to sell us old broads short, technologically speaking … she may surprise you yet!
Thanks Zalina : )
So true that certain items of clothing are true classics.
LOL I will try not to give up hope on my Mom and technology. : )
Wow. What a gorgeous dress with an amazing story. You look fantastic. I love your parents. I want them. The world certainly changes quickly now days. I remember writing code for computers at school that is so antiquated now that it seems absurd. The world certainly is easy now in a very complicated and slightly removed way. Overwhelming. But the simple things are things like beauty and you are beautiful.
This is so cool. I really wish my G Ma would have saved some of her clothes for me. You look Marvelous darling!
