So the last time I went to the consignment store I took in a bunch of clothes to sell from my closet. Of course after feeling a great sense of relief knowing that I had created some room in my closet I immediately found 3 dresses at the consignment store that came home with me.

What is it they say? One step forward…two steps back?

This is a look at the first dress.

I don't know if this was meant to be worn as a tunic. It is a large and I very rarely take large. The arm holes are kind of big but I loved the pattern, colours and the fact that I knew it would be wonderfully comfortable.

I think you know you're doing well when I pulled all these pieces out of my closet and they worked perfectly with the dress. I've already worn this outfit twice in ten days…the sign of a real winner.

It has these little metal pieces sewn on it all over which are an unusual detail. A few of them looked like they might fall off so I was able to get this piece for 50% off and when I got home I just glued them with some fabric glue.

I have to say that although the prices in the consignment stores can be much higher than in a thrift store I still find it much easier to shop in a consignment store. The items have been curated and are usually a much better quality and better preserved than in a thrift store.

I guess I just don't have the thrift store shopping gene.

I find it challenging to get past the rows and rows of garbage looking for that discarded designer piece that isn't full of holes or 6 sizes too large for me.

I find that the smell at the thrift stores can really be stinky overpowering. It's often not just the clothes that smell either, if you get what I mean. I don't know if it's my hormones or what but I've become very smell sensitive as of late…like a bloodhound on steroids, so if I'm ever to become a thrift store professional I will need to wear a nose plug while shopping or put some Vicks under my nose.
