When my sister came and stayed with me of course we went shopping and of course I made her try on clothes that I thought would look good on her.
What?
Don’t you force people to try on clothes for your pleasure?
I’m the Gordon Ramsay of personal stylists.
I can’t help myself.
I know what is going to look good on them long before they do.
It is a gift.
Skills arduously developed over years and years of playing Barbie Dolls.
Only now my Barbie is a full sized person.
Often I need to ease them into the idea…a little harmless suggestion…
“Just for fun! I want to see what’ll it’ll look like. For me. Just try it on for me.”
All the while knowing full well that it is going to look damn great on them,
because…
ah hellooooo!
my Barbie was always the best dressed and consistently won all the beauty contests. I may have been an obnoxiously slightly competitive kid.
I’ll admit sometimes it takes some effort for the person to see what I see when they try on the clothes.
When they step out of their personal comfort zone they are unable to see themselves with objective eyes. Suddenly their head looks like it has been popped on someone else’s body.
Especially if you’re used to wearing scrubs all day. (My sister works in a hospital.)
So…this is a very long way of getting around to showing you some outfits I picked out for my sister while she was here…
This one was the easiest because it was basically the same outfit my sister had seen me wear earlier in the week. She already had the boots (aren’t they FAB?) and jeans and she found the scarf and sweater while we were shopping.
Here she is doing her best, “Blogger Pose.” #totallyuncomfortable
I found this maxi for her at a really great thrift shop called Talize. It is too bad I didn’t take photos of her in all of the items I found for her there because she scored big time. We had a system, she shopped for her daughters and I shopped for her. Worked out perfectly.
And here we have La Pièce de résistance! The one I pushed her into trying on at Anthro.
Isn’t this going to be perfect for a vacation? Even paired with flats it’ll be cool.
I love the neckline and the slit in the back. Subtle sexy.
She is wearing some of my vintage sandals that I bought at an estate sale a while back.
I really love this jumpsuit on her. It truly is something she never would have considered for herself.
So how you think I did styling my sister?
Do you ever style friends or family members? Do they like it?
