When I’m sucked into the vortex of buying retail I need to prove to myself that it is worth it.
Too many times when I shopped retail I’d come out with a full outfit. While this is fun it isn’t very practical. Ideally each piece I buy should work seamlessly with other pieces I own. This is especially true if I’m stepping out of my colour zone and trying something totally weird wild, like radioactive neon yellow.
In the past I’ve only owned a few yellow pieces but this year I’ve been drawn to it like a pug to food.
The soft pastel yellow that I’m wearing here from a few years ago is easy on the eyes…a stepping stone if you will for people that aren’t used to wearing yellow.
This yellow skirt from Anthro just had a bit of yellow in it. Another baby step towards wearing more yellow.
I added a few iron on embroidered patches to make this yellow double breasted fall jacket unique.
This is my favourite shade of yellow, a warm golden yellow. This is the shade that works well with my complexion.
Recently I was drawn to this Anthropologie skirt.
Okay…I stalked the skirt online like an obsessed fan for about 8 months so when it went on super sale a week ago I snapped it up.
Please don’t tell me to get a life. I already know that behaviour is completely insane totally normal for a style blogger.
Did you notice anything?
The yellow is getting colder and brighter. Further away from the tone that works with my skin.
Five Reasons To Buy Neon Yellow Boots
Finally I crashed through any remaining barriers when I saw these insanely bright basically glow-in-the-dark neon boots.
They’re cray-cray right? Suddenly cray-cray was perfect for my wardrobe.
I don’t know why.
The bright yellow is far enough away from my face to avoid triggering migraines.
I knew instinctively no matter what I’d pair them with it would look fresh so I paired them with vintage, of course.
Mixing up different eras of clothing adds visual interest, plus it’s just plain fun!
I thought they would be comfortable and I was right.
They go on like socks, they don’t emphasize my man legs and they elongate my body.
Check, check and check baby!
Here they are with a dress soon to be listed in my Etsy shop.
Now again with a groovy vintage 1970s maxi dress that is also going to be available for purchase soon.
But my favourite of all my looks with these electric yellow boots is this incredible vintage plaid wool jacket.
How excited was I when I found this coat?
This is me saying, “Yaaaaaasssss!”
This wonderful vintage jacket will NOT coming to the Etsy store soon.
Ha ha! This will be added to my private collection for a bit.
It is too damn incredible not to wear. Especially now that I have the electric boots!
I’ve been itching to write a post about coats since I saw the movie Atomic Blond. Did you see it? I’ve become obsessed with the insane style in that movie. I’ll save it for another post but I *may* have something being custom made for me and coming all the way from Russia with love. (No joke and no hints!)
So I think that I’ve proven to myself that the yellow boots deserve a spot in my shoe closet.
Do you also ensure items you purchase with work with what you already own?
PS You are going to be seeing a whole lot more of these boots in the future, they were so comfy I bought them in red too!
Linking up with the lovely Patti over at Visible Monday.
