Normally I am not one drawn to black, but when it comes to the perfect little black dress even I succumb to the sexy, elegant, classic allure of black.
The little black dress never goes out of fashion.
I often search for a LBD with a tiny bit of the unexpected, something unique that’ll make the dress stand out.
6 Little Black Dress Suggestions
Lace & Bows
The design on the lace overlay of this dress drew me in. Did you notice the great peek-a-boo hemline? So unusual and unique.
Fit & Flare Little Black Dress
A vintage inspired little black dress with rhinestone buttons and a tulle petticoat attached. Very Audrey Hepburn.
Embellished Neckline & Lace Little Black Dress
This is such a pretty piece. Again it is the little details in the feather-like embellished neckline with sequins and frayed ribbon that drew me in.
Authentic Vintage 1950’s Velvet Floral Embroidered Little Black Dress
If this dress fit me you know I would not be selling it. This is a real heirloom piece.
Vintage 1950’s embroidered velvet dress available now size XS
Authentic Vintage Black Velvet Wiggle Dress
I adore this dress! It is so well made. It has boning inside the bodice. It is the only dress I can wear strapless without fear of a major wardrobe malfunction. I’m showing it with the straps here, but it is even sexier without them. This is a Jessica Rabbit dress for sure.
Vintage Velvet Wiggle Dress available now size small
Embellished Neckline Little Black Dress
This is very understated and classic but the neckline is lovely. It is covered in beads, sequins and small stones. The cut is very flattering as it shows off the shoulder area and lightly skims the rest of the body.
Embellished neckline LBD available now size 6-10
What about a metallic maxi skirt instead of a LBD?
A full skirt paired with a sweater is a great alternative to a little black dress. This is such a glamorous unique look.
Metallic maxi skirt available now waist 27″
Same idea but in olive green with metallic bronze…so wonderful!
Moss Green Metallic Maxi Skirt *SOLD*
Are you a fan of little black dresses for parties? Or do you prefer to stand out in some pattern and colour?
Personally I am more apt to choose black if I want to come across as “serious and elegant”. If I’m after my usual “artsy and unusual” I most often choose colour and pattern.
Here are a few other little black dresses I’ve picked out.
Do any of the dresses or skirts I’ve featured in this post tickle your fancy? If so, which one?

I love the vintage velvet piece. All beautiful LBD’s!

I think you are the only person I know that would be small enough to wear that piece. Often times vintage is so tiny!
All beauties! I swoon for the fit and flare dress, with the petticoat attached. and you look gorgeous in these black pieces – what can’t you wear?? : >

sigh…I love that Audrey Hepburn dress too…
You would look amazing in that Sue! Get sewing ; )
A wonderful selection modeled beautifully against the incredible backdrop.
I’m not a wearer of black dresses either. I’ve got an early 1960s gown I inherited from my Mum but tend to wear it with denim and lace-up boots as a daytime thing.
Most people aren’t like us though, they’ll soon snap up those beauties! xxx
That’s why I still bought them even though some of them aren’t authentic vintage.
One of the vintage sellers I met at the Toronto Vintage Clothing show told me that it isn’t enough to buy what I may like to resell, you must know what other people want to buy. I’m sure you know that already…seasoned pro that you are.
I’m like you—I rarely search out a black dress. Probably because I want to stand out from everyone else—not blend in! But it also looks terrible with my complexion. That being said, I still own a couple and have a series coming out soon, just because everyone else loves them so!!
I can’t wait to get that green maxi—it will be my holiday party look!!

I cannot wait to see you in the green maxi skirt and how you’re going to style it : )
As you know, I used to be all about wearing black. It was my go-to color for almost any situation. Now I almost repel from it when I see it because I don’t want to go invisible again. But these dresses are stand-out pieces. With all the special details on each one, no one would be invisible wearing them.
The look here that I am most drawn to these days is the maxi skirt with a sweater. I’ve never worn that combination before because I never thought of it. Seeing it on you, I definitely want to try it!

It’s such a wonderfully elegant look. It makes you feel like a princess, and who doesn’t like feeling like that?
Wow! I want to wear each and every look you modeled and styled!

What a fab selection of LBD’s – all beautiful and you look gorgeous in all of them. My favourite, though, has to be the maxi skirts – so elegant and swishy!
Such a shame about the black velvet embroidered dress being too small – it;s absolutely stunning on you.
Hope you have a great week

Believe me, I tried everything to make that little embroidered velvet dress fit me. It would require removing a few ribs : (
🙂 They’re all beautiful. No, YOU’re beautiful and these dresses enhance it.
My favorite dress is the one with the little rhinestone buttons. L-O-V-E!
Have a very HAPPY week xoxo 🙂
The “Audrey Hepburn” one is my absolute fav! Just my kind of style…
*sigh* You have such beautiful taste. Can I buy some? 🙂
No need. I’ll lend it to you. : )
I really find it difficult to pick just one of these beauties!! You are really smashing in all of them but you should absolutely NOT sell the vintage velvet wiggle. So sexy and always in style! Plus, velvet is so hot right now!!!!
I wish I had this kind of life. I just don’t get invited to these kinds of holiday parties.
I do LOVE that velvet wiggle dress. About 20 years ago I hired a seamstress to try to make one exactly like this for me but in teal. It was a failure. It didn’t turn out anything at all like this. This is the dress I needed. It was for a big New Year’s Eve party.
I really like the shape of the second dress with the empire waist. I will wear something black and slinky if I’m going out and want to look edge-y and perhaps a bit sexy (not that that happens much anymore), but I go for bold colour and more coverage if it’s a casual social event. You look smashing in ALL of these dresses. Too bad the velvet one with the full skirt doesn’t fit 🙁
Thanks for the lovely comment on my most recent post!
I loooooooooooove that second dress with the collar!!!
You really ought to be issuing a health warning at the start of these posts Suzanne. Along the lines of “You’re about to enter the danger zone of the ultimate in temptation skillfully chosen by your favourite fashionista!”
I love, love, love that lace and bows number and will be heading right over to see the damage for that particular beauty.

You chose a BEAUTY Anna! This is going to look AMAZING on you! I *almost* didn’t sell this one because it is so fantastic.
Thanks so much for your patronage : )
Most of these gorgeous dresses “tickle my fancy”! xx
Do any tickle my fancy??? Are you kidding, every single one of them. I wish I had an excuse for a LBD but I have no fancy parties to attend. I’m trying to figure out how I can create a party, haha. That fit and flare needs to find a place in my closet as well as the velvet floral vintage one and that metallic maxi skirt, I love that! Dang, if I lived closer I would take all three. You are the perfect model my friend. I say let’s have a party!
Wow, you have quite a collection of black dresses! All lovely, and so different. I think you look great in black, too, must be the red hair… I haven’t worn a black dress since the last time I went to a funeral, years ago. I’ve actually avoided black altogether for the last ten years, it makes me look so drab.
LOVE these! I just picked up a little black dress (first one since losing weight) and I am thrilled with it… great post! <3 – http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com
I am not a fan of black either but a little black dress is something really irresistible! Very nice selection of party dresses…
Each one is so beautiful. If I were rich and famous, I would have you style me!
I love particularly that ‘Audrey hepburn’ dress, it’s just something I would like to wear, such a fab shape!
I like a Little black dress when going to the theatre, as I’m an old fashioned lady who likes to dress up to go to the theatre! (even if everybody is wearing jeans)
Lovely recap!
besos
I love them all, i will confess! Favs are the fit and flare and velvet, but each choice is special and perfect for the holidays. The metallic skirt and velvet dress, yum.

I love each and everyone of them. I would never sell them.
