There will be no escaping this soul crushing winter for me this year.
Hubby's work is once again interfering with my holiday plans. He will be heading to Washington this week, the only time we could have squeezed in a tropical vacation getaway before I am scheduled to look after my sister's pug while they go on March break to Florida.
Am I devastated?
What do you think?
I have hope that I will lift myself off of the floor where I planted myself once I found out. But why rush?
What's the point?
I'm not going anywhere.
I need to pack a few small belongings into my vintage needlepoint bag and and run away to a land where the only ice is floating in cocktails.
And by running away I mean going downstairs to binge watch Netflix
in front of the fire with a large bottle of wine and something naughty,
like plate full of coconut chocolate cheesecake bites.
Ah running away, you never tasted so good.
I will be watching "Only You" a classic little rom-com
that takes place on the island of Capri.
What is so special about Capri?
Have a look.
If you haven't seen this little gem of a movie I highly recommend it.
Also it doesn't hurt that it stars a very young and sexy Robert Downey Jr.
{le sigh}
An hour and a half of complete escapism.
Husband came back yesterday with this little bag to take some of the sting out of missing out on a vacation…
It's lovely.
But let's be real.
It's no Capri.
Shoes – Fluevog, Wide Leg Pants – BCBG, Bag & Earrings – Vintage, Silk blouse – Joe Fresh, Sequin top – H&M
Do you have a favourite movie that allows you to escape?
The weather forecast for the rest of the week is a dismal pathetic excuse for Spring. In fact any other year this forecast would be considered the coldest most wretched days of winter that has now lasted for oh…5 months!!!
So don't hold back!
Share!
I need some new escape films to add to my list.
**UPDATE**
Husband couldn't stand my incessant whining about not getting a vacation this winter.
We are heading out to Jamaica next week!
Proof that complaining does pay off.
Yeah baby!
or as the Jamaicans say,
"irie mon"

Glad to hear you are able to get away after all! I am jealous, and in agreement with your first statement – this winter IS soul crushing.
I keep hoping to wake up to a green lawn.
It hasn’t happened yet.
Laura
Wow, what a turnaround! I must perfect the whining around here. I hope you have a ridiculously good time. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday. P.S., young RDJ is DIVINE.
Thanks for the movie recommendation!! You look great…I love the beret on top…have fun!!!
Yes, be the squeaky wheel! You need that sun, and I’m sure Jamaica is warmer than Capri right now anyway.
I love your outfit – that skirt is very graceful, but the shirt and shoes give it a little bit of fizz!
Great outfit suzanne and lucky you for going to Jamaica. Never been there and still on my wishlist. Be sure to come to Singapore next time. Nice and warm and you can visit both Anja and me!
A girl needs to get out of town sometimes to get those tropical juices flowing – yea! Better start digging out your summer clothes, your tan in a bottle…and paint those toenails!
I totally love your outfit…the pink top is so liquid and looks darling with the uber-cool Fluevogs and the needlepoint bag…a brilliant ensemble in all ways!
Oh, and I’m hooked on “Amalie” as a romantic and comedic escape film!
Yay, for Jamaica!
But should you ever find yourself in need of any more “escapist” films, ones I’ve always enjoyed are Under the Tuscan Sun, Chocolat, The Talented Mr. Ripley (beautiful setting and costumes, not so uplifting story).
I watch Only You pretty much every time it airs, LOL. Um, yeah ditto RD Jr. The big question is; have the plans for the evening been changed to practicing the limbo baby!
You look ah-maze-balls in your outfit today! Yeppers, I love it!!!
The pug handbag is adorable. Hey, have an awesome, super time away!!!
But wait! Now I’m going to be the only one trapped in winter hell!!! I’m jealous but happy for you.
Jamaica, now that’s exciting! I am with you, it has been unbearable this year. Today it was 45 here in MN, some melting of the three foot drifts! Cute outfit, the pink looks like a mood lifter. Love these wide legged pants.
blue hue wonderland
Jamaica! Next week! So excited and jealous for you! I hope you have a wonderful time! My friend was married there and is always speaking so highly of it.
I had my prom dress made based on “Only You.” You know the dress with the cutouts? Yea. I had a seamstress try to make that for me. Only. Only. It got lost in translation. Oh. It was so, so, so bad. That movie makes me cringe now. Which is sad, because I really like it.
Have fun next week!
Jenni
Love the outfit. Love Only You. Love Robert Downey Jr. Le Sigh is right.
I just noticed that latley non of my comments are going through, let’s hope this one works and please know I have been commenting on every one of your posts.
First of all Yeah, I love a good ending! I’m going to subscribe to all your stories. Second, I need to taking whining lessons from you, Jamaica? Wow! But you so deserve this.
Third, can I just hug your adorable pug with the best persoanlity in doggy world.
Fourth, every single item you are wearing I could so easily put in my closet, but you styled each piece to put together the perfect ensemble. Your vintage bag is a treasure and then you pop up with that adorable new bag hubby found for you. Talk about the perfect bag.
Have a wonderful wonderful vacation.
Love Love Only You..it’s been so long since I’ve seen it. Your hubby is a smart man – cute purse & vacation..he knows that happy wife = happy life 🙂

hehehe! This post really cracked me! Don’t worry, you are in good company when it comes to holiday plans gone bad. My hub is a pilot and there is no such a thing as smooth sailing holiday plan, always changing and never confirm! By the way Only You is one of my favorite movies.. the image of Positano Amalfi Coast is truly breath taking. The closest I’ve been is Naples, LOL! By the way, you look perfect for cocktail downstairs 🙂
p.s. Thanks for your ideas on the beret look. I think I’ll give it a take 2 🙂

Unfortunately Suzanne has no intention of visiting Singapore, she already told me. We have a better chance of catching up with her in Amsterdam, together with Greetje!
What a lovely, playful look, Suzanne! And that new bag is great! You can change pug-bags now for even and odd days or something;-).
Woah, that would have been much, if hubby would have left so soon again. You must be one professional whiner! That, or he just loves you that much;-).
I was in Jamaica more then 20 years ago. We stayed in a gorgeous resort for 3 days and the rest with friends who lived there. Hope you two have a great time.
Well, I have just lost all sympathy for you now out of pure jealousy! Ha, not really; I think a holiday in Jamaica is only right, considering your hideous winter and your husband being away, don’t you?!
Love the addition of the pink sequin top over the blouse, and your tapestry bag is a beauty. I may have said that before. It’s still true! xxx
well that’s a nice update!! can i come???
Yay! Jamaica? No but you made him! Geddit? Lame joke but forgive me, I’m excited for you already!
You deserve a break, that weather would make me suicidal and a dose of sunshine, sea, sand and cocktails is just what you need to top up your fabulousity!
Loving the pug bag and the entire outfit.
Bollywood always makes me feel great. Have you seen Bride & Predjudice – the Bollywood twist on the Austin classic, set in London and The Punjab? Do, its ace! xxxx
Congrats on the vacay! And let me just say you are looking stellar in your perfect outfit. Couldn’t look any hipper or cuter or awesomer! Love the blingy pink T- layered skater girl style over a long sleeved shirt, and the long maxi skirt and needlepoint vinty bag? Aces.
Very pretty ensemble! That vintage tapestry handbag is immensely beautiful. I love its generous size, colour palette and the fact that there’s even some stitched blooms running along the sides. What a special detail!
♥ Jessica
Incessant whining gets Jamaica! I’m going to remember that hehe, good stuff and I am just chuffed for you, sunshine and ice in your drinks! and sunshine! I’m excited too! Only you is a great film and I adore your sequin top over the blouse, you look amazing in this outfit, very romantic x x x
I was feeling sorry for you until I heard you were going to Jamaica! :)How exciting! I have never been there but would love to travel there! Everyone needs a break from the crazy and horrible winter!
Love the outfit! The top is lovely and perfect with those darling Fluevogs! Love the new bag too!

Enjoy your well earned Jamaican getaway, incessant whining wins again!!
Love your pink sparkly top and the great shoes.
That pug is adorable! I’m super excited that you and your husband are heading over to Jamaica. I just couldn’t imagine having such cold weather for the last five months, you definitely deserve it 🙂
Yay! Enjoy!
How sweet of hubby to bring you such a cute bag.
You may not be in need of the escapist flics, but since you asked, a few of my faves are Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth; the Trois Coleurs trilogy; and The Breakfast Club. Haven’t seen the one you suggest but it looks like a classic late 90s? flic.
Xoxo
Have an amazing time stylish! Kiss

Allo Suzanne!
Ouh! Nice hubby! Jamaica! Normally we would have gone somewhere warm this year, but because of the wedding, Mr D’s new job and big trip to France we decided not to go, but next year for sure we will spend a week in a warmer climate next winter –
I totally enjoyed all your posts – the pug purse so adorable- the pics with your dogs beside the purse is priceless!
Have a fantastic trip and i will check out that movie on Netflix, we watch a lot of Netflix –
Arianexo
What a good husbers you have!!! Jealous of your upcoming trip… and that adorable bag… and that PUG!!!!

Lady à la Mode
OMG I’m so glad you are going to get your vacation after all! =D
Although, now that you mention it, I need to watch that film. I keep meaning to and I never get around to it! =D
xo,
nancy
The pug pictures in this post to illustrate your moods are terrific. I had so much fun. As for the young and sexy Robert Downey Jr… I think he resembles your husband.
My feel good movie is Victor and Victoria with Julie Andrews and best of all… Leslie Ann Warren as mob girl when she says: “what’s with the soap?” This movie kills me every time. I don’t care how many times I see it. See the trailer:

Awwh. You look so pretty and winsome in your outfit, of course he relented, complete surrender with prezzies. Precious Pugs …!
I wish bitching and moaning would work here. I haven’t been on a vacation of any kind for 16 years, so I feel ya. I don’t even think of escape anymore. When we manage to crawl out from this money pit restaurant, we may get out of Dodge before we’re dead. I do watch my favorite version of *Jane Eyre* (the Charlotte Gainsbourg version) to forget why I feel bad. But for true escape, I watch the old version of *The Producers*, or even the new one. Nothing mitigates self-pity like like laughing till you wet your pants!
Haha! I was all ready to send you a commiserating comment on dealing with a long winter but it turns out you’re getting your winter break after all – pester power! Love the pink sequins and the printed maxi – please show us photos of your sister’s pug when he/she comes to stay – those dogs are sooo cute!
Yay Jamaica! I gotta say, I think Robert Downey is waaayyy hotter now than when he was younger. Oh, and by the way, I know I’ve said this before, but you look gorgeous in pink.
Debbie

Congratulations on that much needed respite Suzanne…..yes complaining pays! And thanks for making me more excited to bust out my maxis!!

Your pug pics are simply adorable 🙂
And I love the needlepoint bag – so cute, but looks like it would be quite versatile.
Ergh, I am also craving a getaway, so congrats on convincing the hubby to escape to Jamaica!
Ooh, thanks for the rom com recommendation – will have to check it out. I’ll live vicariously through the movie haha.

Just discovered your blog via Anna and I love your style. It’s so unique and daring! As for the netflix/wine/cheesecake balls..I’m officially jealous!
Miche from Buttons and Birdcages
You’ve proved once again that the squeaky wheel gets the grease! Glad you get your tropical vacation after all. This week’s “Oh it’s Spring, oh wait it’s not” weather has been rather soul crushing. Some of my favourite repeat viewing escapist films are The Fifth Element, Roman Holiday and Funny Face. Enjoy your escape!
Yeah…well we are now in the middle of a blizzard, so nope…no green grass here for a while. I am so so happy I am getting away. I will have a drink by the pool and think of you ; )
Ha ha. Yep. I think this is the first time in 23 years that the whining has paid off.
Thanks Pam : )
Too right about Capri right now. I need to hit that place in May. It is on my bucket list.
LOL too right you are Anja : ) Singapore looks lovely but there are so many other places on my list before I make it there. Amsterdam in September…still trying to organize that. I really want to make it so hopefully it’ll work out.
Just got a pedicure today and am shaking my bottle of tanning lotion ; ) I need it BIG time!
I did like Amalie too. Good recommendation.
I’d forgotten how great The Talented Mr. Ripley is. The costumes and location are stunning. Hmmmm might need to Netflix that one : )
LOL! Yeah limbo…I do need to practice : )
So sorry my suitcase isn’t bigger Ashely : )
We had 2 really great days of weather, just a light jacket was needed, the snow was melting and then BAM! Today HUGE snowstorm and 3ft drifts. Thank heavens I am leaving soon.
I cannot believe you had that dress made! Too bad it wasn’t what you’d hoped for.
I had a dress made one year for New Year’s where I had super high expectations that were totally missed as well. Turned me off getting anything custom made again. If only I had the patience to sew.
So interesting, I have the same H&M sequin top in the same colour, (lol) you gave me an inspiration.
So glad you’re going on a tropical vacation. I hope you’ll enjoy it the most, have fun and rest with the sunshine.
Oh my, this winter is driving me crazy now 🙁
As per usual you look fantastic in your stylish outfit.
Thank you so much for linking with Très Chic Style Bits
xoxo
: )
You are I seriously need to have a closet swap since I am coveting so many of your pieces and I think we may be close to the same size.
True dat : )
I hope the new outfit with the beret works out. I can’t stand to see a good beret go to waste : )
This is our first time so I hope it turns out well.
Yes, well hubby is in Washington right now but will be back in time for us to go to Jamaica together at least. Also we did get in a couple of dance night since he came back. We really need Tango lessons again though. We have forgotten most of what we learned now.
I couldn’t agree more : ) Plus…since we got another blizzard today I really feel deserving.
: ) Sure! There might not be much extra room in the suitcase now though.
ha ha! That is too funny! Well I guess we both have brilliant tastes right?
This weather is the worst. I am so happy to be leaving.
Thanks for stopping by Miche : )
Yep…that is the whole point : )
ha ha! Fooled you Rebecca : ) Those are wide leg trousers.
It is so unfair that guys get hotter like that.
I need a t-shirt that reads pester power now : )
16 years??? Okay I will stop complaining now. Seriously though, that is ridiculous.
LOL I too think hubby resembles RDJ, for sure the eyelashes. Probably why I love the movie so much. It really reminds me of when I met my husband in France.
I had forgotten all about Victor Victoria. I need to Netflix that. Thanks for the recommendation.
It’s a good one. Sappy, romantic a bit funny and shot in a wonderful location.
I’ll let you know how it goes. You might want to consider it next year.
Yeah…basically you would shrivel up and die here Ashley : ) It is not LA.
I have to watch the Trois Coleurs. I think I saw Red but it is so long ago now I forget.
Yes I think it is a 90’s flick.
One of these days I want to make it over to Greece and then I’ll pop by and say hi!
Ha ha! My poor Zoe didn’t know what to make of that funny dog.
Your trip to France sounds like it is going to be great. No doubt you’re busy with stuff for the wedding too.
Yes and it has only taken 23 years for me to get him this well trained! LOL
Wow! A winter holiday in Jamaica sounds a great idea! ( and very exotic to me!) It will surely means a lot of fun…and talking about fun…very nice photos of your dog! ( will he go to Jamaica??)
Have a nice week!
I hope you haven’t forgotten Victor Victoria again. Such a nice movie.
