This week I’ve been on a rampage with wearing monochromatic head to toe.
I think I’m getting better at it now.
Like they say…practise makes perfect.
How did I make my monochrome outfits? I gathered items of similar colour from my closet and threw them in a pile on my bed. Then I sorted through them to figure out what would work together. One top, one bottom, one extra piece. (Wearing more than 2 pieces together is more interesting, looks polished and stretches your creative brain.)
So scientific!
I didn’t even know I had this much black in my closet.
I wore a version of this on my trip to France last summer.
What do I like about the outfit? I like that it is edgy and super comfortable. The jeans are like wearing yoga pants.
What don’t I like about the outfit? The black is a bit overwhelming, even with the striped grey in the t-shirt.
And here I am showing you just how to kick butt while wearing monochrome. It takes serious skills to stand still with one leg in the air and kick it out.
I told you the jeans were as comfortable as yoga pants.
Do you ever wear all black? Or is that strictly for funerals for you?
PS…I did see that I wore all black to a wedding once… and here are 10 ways I styled a little black dress…

My sister-in-black today! You do indeed kick serious ass and you look awesome. xox
Looking good here, girlfriend! I really like this outfit. And yes, I too often reach for all black. I’m trying to get away from it. I’m looking for color nowadays (not so easy to find, actually).
It is funny since I’ve only really seen you in colour I have a difficult time imagining you in all black.
Girl, you are ROCKIN’ all these looks. Definitely loving that little gif you made too, how adorable!

Kick butt!! Love that gif image you uploaded. That’s awesome. You remind me of Anna Mercury. You must look her up!
I love your monochromatic look here. I don’t think the pants look too dark at all. I prefer to wear all black on the weekends if we go out in the evening. I feel sleek in all black.
LOL I had to look her up. My husband would go nuts if I were truly built as bad-ass as her! LOL
Sooooo cute! I’m really excited to follow your monochrome journey! Doing all black seems so boring because there aren’t as many variations as there are with, say, blue. But you used different fabrics and textures and sneaked in that striped top, and the whole outfit has a lot of visual interest and contrasts. I think monochrome is so interesting when it’s done this way because it’s really a play in similarities and contrasts. I also agree that building a monochromatic outfit out of separates and layers gives you much more room to be creative.

Otherwise it’s just a dress and shoes right? Well, maybe with a leather jacket like you’ve been wearing lately.
You and Patti will be putting butts in slings all over the place. Great outfit, Suzanne! Do I like black and wear all black? Is coffee black? A resounding yes. I like it so much we have had to divorce; otherwise, the colours would revolt. We still are friends and get together for happy reunions from time to time.
I think I need a t-shirt that reads, “Over 40 & still kicking ass!”
Great outfit on you! I was thinking about monochrome and red-haired people like yourself… it’s always just enough color (sort of built-in) to make it more interesting. Have you ever taken kickboxing classes? Your kicking reminded me of the one I took once. 🙂 Have you ever tried all-red or all-orange outfits? Now that would be really monochromatic, wouldn’t it! xxx
I have a burgundy/cherry outfit that I wore as well which I haven’t posted, yet.
I have never taken kickboxing lessons but I have done some videos…back in the day…when people used to do videos! LOL
Hi Suzanne,
I love the gif. Too cute! Great outfit. It seems like all black is the going thing these days. I only wear it on occasion. I prefer to wear white.
Hi Suzanne,
I love how you are kicking butt in the bottom picture. Nice monochromatic look, like the vest, and those jeans… I need to wear mine again.
from the link up, please stop by, jess xx

Ha! I love that kick you’re doing! You crack me up. I love an all black look. I think it looks so chic. Those coated jeans are super cute. Bonus that they are as comfy as yoga pants!
You kick ass!! I love the GIF!! you’re a superhero, dressed impeccably of course! I love an all black look, I feel terribly glamorous and gothic in it x x x
The gif is great! It’s unusual to see you all in black, but of course you look fab, the layers and textures add interest and you are always super cool! xxx
I have never understood why black is considered boring,it is simply a matter of mixing textures and shapes and adding colour with accesories if you wish or just a bright lipstick. You have shown that black is anything but boring with your stripes. Great bit of kick boxing.
I love this outfit on you. I have no problem wearing all black, I used to wear it all the time but haven’t lately. BTW, I adore your outfit that you shared in HIW series.

Hope to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
This outfit looks great on you. I rarely wear all black, although it’s a good color for me. Maybe because I live in such a gray area, I feel like I need to inject a little color into the situation? I love how you chose your monochromatic outfits! You have inspired me to give this a try, and maybe something will work out and make an appearance on my blog!
You rock! Red heads can wear all black and not look drab, and you’re a proof of that. Also, you have interesting texture and pattern here. I’m a big fan of monochrome (though not black: it makes me look like a vampire at best and like I’m slowly wasting away at worst). Black can be a bit overwhelming, and I find it’s very difficult to combine with colour. Also, it seems to be the colour of choice of the majority of Finnish women (black in winter, beige in summer… and because they’re usually pale and have a sort of mousy coloured hair, both make them look incredibly boring and drab) I think they’re suffering from some sort of extreme case of colour phobia, and try to do the opposite myself…
Loving that GIF. Have you had those creepy emails from that “woman” requesting some Kung Fu kicking photos, too? She’ll be in heaven, now!
You look great, the striped top lifts the look as does your fabulous red hair. xxx
Your outfit looks great and I have no problem wearing all black. I always feel a little more confident and stylish when I do.
I love this mostly all black outfit! The coated jeans are gorgeous and I love all of the layers, Indeed you do kick it here!
I seldom wear all black, but I love the look, it is a perfect canvas for jewelry, and is super sophisticated!
and very Parisian! Well done!

I’ve worn all black… some times more successfully than others….
But I love how you wore it (any outfit with that vest is sure to be a win in my book!)
I wanted to wear all black for my wedding. My husband to be did not like the idea as he had a grat suit. Thus, I when for a red skirt suit and a black hat and blouse.
You are definitely kicking butt in this all-black Outfit, Suzanne. I love the vest, boots and pants. You look awesome!
Have a great weekend! Ada. =)
OK monochromatic but perhaps with 1 really bright colour somewhere. Would that make you happier with the outfit? I bet it would as it does look great and it is so comfortable. I think the hat is also very nice with it. That bright piece or rim has to be good though. I trust you to find something.
Love you kicking butt haha.

I spent a lot of my 20’s and 30’s wearing all black, so I try to mix in a colour, even if it’s just grey. I admit that I still feel very kick ass when I’m wearing a sleek black outfit. It’s obviously a Diana Peel/Trinity thing!
Like the Miz Mooz boots – I like that brand and it usually fits my large feet.
