Don't get me wrong…I love looking at lithe young sexy things with flawless skin and shiny hair. Who doesn't? They often have interesting creative ideas on clothing and how to wear it.
However, I do find that when I binge on these type of blogs it leaves me with a poor self image and a bit depressed. Like when I eat a whole bag of potato chips. I know I shouldn't have done it, but I did it anyways and now I feel like crap.
To compensate I turn to my peers, the slightly more life-experienced bloggers. The ones who have been there, done that more than twice and know what they are talking about. Like Bella…
You know the ones I mean, intelligent, witty but with real substance for your brain to chew on. Like Jan.
The ones that have enough perspective on themselves and their lives to let it all hang out. Like Sky.
The kind you think you'd like to hang out with and get tipsy over a bottle or two. Like Melanie.
The kind you think you'd let borrow your new shoes because they would know how to take care of them. Like Patti
The kind that own their choices and accept, nay celebrate themselves as they age. Like Vix.
The kind that isn't afraid of speaking their mind. Like Gabriala.
The kind with a positive outlook and vibrant energy that don't take themselves too seriously. Like Tamera.
The kind that always seems to know just the right things to say to make the day a little bit brighter. Like Sue.
The kind that just makes you laugh no matter what. Like Shan.
The kind that makes you reflect with gratitude on the smallest details that often pass us by. Like Tamera.
The kind that can weave a great tale out of a thrifted skirt that makes you laugh out loud. Like Val.
The kind that'd knows all the best places to travel, and can still be stylish despite lost luggage. Like Heather.
And many others that I haven't mentioned here. The list is growing daily.
There are certain things that only time and experience can afford.
That is why I love Bloggers Over 40.
bisous

Ah yes, I know and love most of these bloggers. Thanks for introducing me to the few I don’t know. While most of my tried and true blogger pals are 40-plus, and indeed so am I, I haven’t felt inclined to advertise the latter by putting the badge on my blog. I guess I don’t want to be identified wholly as such, but I completely agree that 40-plus bloggers give me the most inspiration (and comfort?) in the blogosphere. I find a lot of the younger blogs too fashion and trend-driven, and yes, slightly depressing. 🙂 xo

Suzanne!! I’m at a loss for words…as I was scrolling down the page, I was thinking, Yup, uh huh, I agree, definitely would lend Patti my shoes, etc. These beautiful women do indeed brighten my days with their words, and photos. It’s a honor to be included, thank you so very much! I add your name to the list too. I always open your post as soon as I see you in my blog roll! Thanks for being you!
xoxo Sue

Suzanne dear-so happy to see that you are getting back to your fabulous self. I am honored to be included in your list of over 40 (shhhh over 50) bloggers. I so agree with your assessment of being real and having ‘been there’. It is so true. I am always inspired by your beauty and style (and courage I might add). Thanks for the mention. I promise to turn out more posts on how to make a cocktail dress out of a bra and a sarong after an unexpected trip to NYC. 😉

WHAAAAAT???? That you so much for including me in your list!! I am flattered to be in such great company! I am always excited to hear about other …more MATURE bloggers, if you will…and couldn’t agree more with the sentiment in your post. I feel like I’m inspired by all kinds of bloggers, but like you, find myself feeling wistfully envious sometimes at those 20-somethings. It’s silly, because I feel like I PERSONALLY have so much more to offer at 44 than I did at 24 – not putting judgement on anyone else here at all – strictly speaking personally. You put things in perspective beautifully.

And the kind who share their good and bad experiences, their creativity and fashion sense, with intelligence, wit and thoughtfulness, like Suzanne!
Thanks for including me. I need to look at some of these other ones now (I’m so behind and I just keeping finding more blogs to read!).

Suzanne, I love your round-ups! And I love everyone of these bloggers! And your comments! Crack up about me speaking my mind… I guess I can be opinionated…! 🙂 I just got online after not being connected to any technology for three days and I find this goodness. 🙂 Too bad you can’t add yourself to the lineup. I would put for the text, “The kind that you can’t wait to read because you know it will be good and what a treat it is to see her when she shows her fine self, like Suzanne.” XOXOXOXOXO!!!!!
Suzanne says
Are you over 40??? I would never have guessed. You keep it very well hidden.
Suzanne says
When I first started blogging I didn’t want anyone to know I was over 40.
Then I just thought **ck it. I need to own my age. I’m not getting any younger.
Suzanne says
You really are like a ray of sunshine : )
Suzanne says
I featured you in my top five last week in that fabulous red dress of yours.
Suzanne says
So good to hear that you are happy with your age. So many women can’t accept it.

I know the blogosphere is a never ending rabbit hole.

Welcome to 40 plus Alison!
Suzanne says
Hope you have fun on your vacation. I can’t wait to read all about it : )
Suzanne says
You really hide that fact well. I never would have guessed you are over 40.
Suzanne says
I love the fact that you are opinionated. You have a backbone and character. You are not just out there to “be loved”. Being real and standing up for what you believe in keeps me coming back to your blog time and again.
Suzanne says
Thanks for popping by : )

I’m so flattered that you included me with the rest of these great women! Coming off a long and tiring weekend, this is just the tonic to start my new week off right.
Suzanne, there are few that know style better than you … yours and how to help everyone else. Can’t count the times I’ve been inspired by you, kiddo.
I appreciate this recognition all the more because it’s coming from you.
Wow. Thank you.
