The floral bomber jacket trend for fall is everywhere. I’ve been looking for the elusive authentic vintage embroidered satin bomber jacket via thrifting for years now. It is like trying to find a unicorn.
As an interim fix for my craving, I tried out this beautiful patterned floral print bomber from H&M.
When I bought the jacket I thought the fact that it wasn’t elasticized on the bottom and was longer than a regular bomber jacket would be a bonus for me. I’ve always felt that bomber jackets add weight to a frame when you have a chest. Turns out the longer jacket cut my body and made my legs look like Oompa Loompa stumps. A short term solution was to tuck the bomber jacket into the skirt however, I chose not to keep the jacket in favour of trying to find another that suited my body shape better.
As luck would have it I stumbled upon a fabulous bomber jacket last week thrifting.
It isn’t satin, it is an unusual fabric for a bomber jacket. Wait till you see how I DIY’d that sucker.
Stylish Women Over 40 Rocking The Floral Bomber Jacket Trend For Fall
Each of these 40+ bloggers have done such a fab job of showing off their floral bomber jackets.
When I was eleven years old bomber jackets were very big. I had to have one exactly like the cute boy in my class…his name was Scott but he didn’t know I existed. It was black with some white stripes on the cuffs and had snaps instead of buttons or a zipper. The coolest way to wear them was with a hoodie underneath and the jacket left open. Didn’t matter if it was below zero outside, the jacket needed to stay open to achieve “the look”.
I don’t think I owned another bomber jacket until I bought this one thrifting a few years ago all because of another cute guy, Ryan Gosling in Drive. Here is the funny post about my bronze bomber jacket.
I still want to have a photo of Zoë embroidered onto the back of that satin bomber. I haven’t been able to source a place to do that for me.
Since I have no pug emblazoned satin bomber jacket to show you I’ll leave you with a photo of my rather robust pug who is very disgruntled that I took the photo from below. This camera angle does nothing for her figure.
Do you own a floral or embroidered bomber jacket? Are you thinking of getting one? Or do you think the trend will come and go too quickly?

Ah Zoe – all supermodels must have a slightly disgruntled look, so she is perfection. Love your new bomber but I too am not sure I want the puffed waist. It would hide a lot of dessert-bites but I am on the fence. You look fab as per always, xox

I can’t wait to see your DIY project Suzanne!! I always like it when bloggers show the items they end up returning. I tend to return things—-I always feel like I can “do” something to them to make them better! I need to give that up sometimes–ha ha!
And Zoe is perfect—robust is her breed’s characteristic!! She really is such a doll!

I saw a floral bomber in Tesco the other day and thought it looked so pretty, but it really wouldn’t fit in with the rest of my wardrobe and my style ethos. You’re rocking this one though Suzanne!

I love the way you doctored this one Suzanne! I cant wait to see the your newest DIY project though!
I hope you find a way to incorporate your pug!
I think they are flash in the pan- mostly, but cute if they create interest by adding a floral strip combo.
I also agree about fit, I bought a children’s one, in solid, so it would not be too big, and recently found a tiny one that may cute to wear, at a local store, in floral.
LOVE the bronze bomber!

Have I been living under a rock? How have I missed the floral bomber jacket trend? These jackets look so great. But I know I’ll forget all about them once I see your secret DIY jacket project. Heh. I wait to be inspired by you again!
Thanks for alerting me to this trend which passed under my radar. And now I know what to get you for your birthday — a pug-emblazoned satin bomber jacket!
OMG…that bronze jacket is fabulous Suzanne! You do still have it, yes? YES? The tucked in bomber jacket leaves me…well, I’m glad you returned it. Although it doesn’t add bulk to your waist, and the colour is great, I just want to untuck it, LOL. Anyways…do NOT take fashion advice from me…you are the expert.
Zoë is doing the ‘Are we done yet?’ to perfection!
You and Zoe look great! I met her twin the the vets’ yesterday, her name was Ada and she was just as disgruntled.
Oh yeah, I had a cropped black bomber jacket from Topshop back in 1987 which I wore with jumble sale 1950s dresses and Doc Martens.
We’ve been selling mad 1980s bomber jackets to hipsters for probably about 4 years, I’m often surprised by how long it takes for street style to filter down into mainstream fashion. We’ve got some saved in the stockroom for the Autumn fairs. xxx
The story of the boy at school was so sweet, dear Suzanne! And the bomber jacket as well! I like with striped cuffs! I looooved your boots, Oompa Loompa, no 🙂 I think you look very beautiful! I have a jacket, kind of a bomber one, but in denim – so I don’t think it counts, or maybe? I love it, I have it for many years. But a “proper” one, the beautiful ones in satin, I think I won’t buy, because it doesn’t cover hips and just recently I have re-started wearing tight dresses… still have to get used to them again 🙂 Hope you have a nice day! Bisous!

Ah… now I get it.. It took me a while. You ordered the H&M jacket, made the pictures and then sent it back. Still…. the combination is really lovely with that fab skirt and those boots. Hope you can find something similar. Oh wait, you did.. And holding us in suspence.

Looking fabulous as ever, Suzanne! We’ve had a few bomber jackets in the shop and they have been snapped up immediately – they’re not for me though. Had one in the late 1970s, bright green with white trim! Can’t wait to see what you did with the second jacket you found. xx
Love your new bomber! Gorgeous.

I did like that floral bomber on you Suzanne, but know how important it is to have the right length when you’re not an Amazon. I shall wait to see the next installment of bomberfest. In the meantime, I’ve just bought a bronze embriodered satin bomber from TK Maxx recently. I got a stain on it after the first wear, but thankfully the stain remover worked and it all seems fine. Will run an iron over it and showcase it soon.
I have to ask about those wonderful pink suede boots you customised and showed on Instagram recently – did you do a post on them? Please give me the details so that I can copy like the style slave I am.
Have a great week!

I haven’t done a post on them yet! : P I needed to pick up some more crystals today to finish them and then will need to put together an outfit and take photos. Well, I don’t need to explain the whole process to you! Ha! You know all the work that comes before the reveal.
Too funny that you also bought a bronze jacket. Embroidered? Oooh…I am curious! I cannot wait to see it. I know we have very similar tastes. I’m envious already.
Be careful with the iron and satin. I recommend putting it in the dryer for a bit or steaming it.
I love the way you’re wearing this bomber jacket, Suzanne. Stylish, bright, fun, figure enhancing! And your hair is just gorgeous! I have a jacket (I guess it’s a “bomber jacket” which was my Mum’s which she wore on her honeymoon! I wore it the other day but have to be very careful because it’s getting “delicate”! I’ll wear it on a blog post soon, I think, you’ve inspired me to! Zoe looks very gorgeous, no matter what the angle of the photo… xx
Oh wow Suzanne – you are rocking one of Fall’s biggest trends!!!!
I am launching another 3-part collaboration with fashion forward brand STAYING SUMMER this week at the blog – come on over and lemme know what you think!
Happy Thursday!

OH GOODNESS THAT ZOE IS A DARLING LITTLE GRUMPY FACE!
I didn’t have a bomber until a recent posting by Ann at krembdelakremb. She provided a few links and I found one I liked from Forever 21 that was great. Then I realized I had a consignment purchased jacket that is basically a bomber. It’s faux leather and it’s (wait for it…) bronze colored!!! I did a DIY on it by adding some embroidered appliques that I got at a fabric store.
You look gorgeous in yours Suzanne. It really suits your hair. The cool cap and boots are also GREAT!!! Love a newsboy cap!
Ha ha! That is what I call her…my darling little grump face. Or is that my husband? {shrug} ; P
Too funny we both chose bronze.
What were your appliques of?
I know exactly what you mean about chests and bombers – I have the same problem which is why I have avoided the trend apart from my lace bomber which is so light weight it doesn’t present the problem of normal bombers.
But I liked the way you styled it though!
