Imagine this scenario: you're attending a function with your spouse for his work. It's a cocktail and h'ordeuvres party at an upscale restaurant hosted by a large international bank. The place is packed with bankers, wealth management people and important business colleagues of your spouse. After a while of making the rounds and talking to different business contacts in the crowd a man starts a conversation with your spouse. He seems funny, works for an international business and has some interesting stories so you continue to communicate with him throughout the evening. Meantime…your spouse has started a conversation with a friend of this man and is deep in conversation. The man uses this opportunity to subtly begin to touch your hand and arm…caressing your fingertips and back. You move away to signal that you are not interested however this does not deter him and he continues to touch you now moving lower grazing your butt with his fingertips. You signal to your spouse that you would like to leave now however the spouse does not realize anything is going on and insists that you stay longer to finish the conversation and a glass of wine. The other man continues to touch you although you have now made it obvious by moving away several times that his inappropriate touching and advances are not welcome he continues to pursue you. How do you, given the situation, social environment and context react at this point?
Do you
a) turn and face the man and tell him to keep his filthy hands to himself hoping that this won't cause a scene
b) bluntly grab your spouse away from his other conversation ( since this seems to be the only method of getting his attention) and tell him in front of both men what the guy has done and see if punches ensue
c) make a scene yourself, throw your drink in his face and leave
d) calmly insist again that you and your spouse leave without anyone knowing anything and tell your spouse after exiting the restaurant

I want to dance like a Star
I want to dance like a star. I'll admit it. It's been a secret desire of mine since I was a kid making my own dance shows with my younger sister. We would go around the neighborhood asking people to come and see our "Spectacular Dance Show". Mostly it was only friends and family that could be dragged to the shows and I don't think my sister appreciated my on-stage director's bossiness but in my mind we looked awesome.
Today…so many years later with the dance craze taking over TV I got hooked on "So You Think You Can Dance". Everyone looks incredible. They make it look sexy and effortless. So hip and cool! My old desires were coming back. To look graceful and elegant while making all those around you gasp in envy is every closet dancer's dream.
Let's be straight here…I'm no Grace Kelly. My sense of rhythm comes from counting, not from pulsing waves of sound palpitating through my veins and heart. I have tried my hand at West Coast Swing in a group setting a few years back and also gave adult ballet classes a go for a bit. I never managed to look the part. Somehow my "man legs" and flappy arms in the reflection of the mirrors made me seem clumsy and sloppy. The obvious "thump" when I landed from my ballet sauts dispelled any illusion that I was a "light feather floating through the air".
However, I haven't totally given up on my dream of wowing people with my incredible dance moves. This past month my husband and I started taking private dance lessons. Not just any old dance…the dance of passion and love…the dance that makes you look exotic and sexy…the Tango baby!
I had no idea what to expect or how well we would do. Given my past record with dance I figured we'd go for a bit and then get tired of it and quit. I'm happy to report that the entire opposite is true. We have both fallen head over heels for the Tango. The lessons have been the most energizing part of our week. Even though we take the lessons late at night, that is the only time we seem to be able to fit them in, we feel refreshed and pumped after the lessons finish and often come home and practice more. By focusing our minds on something other than our work the 45 minutes is like a mini vacation for our brains. It's so refreshing to be learning something new together that we can enjoy as a couple. I simply love it! What's even better is that Robert is also loving it.
We've only taken 5 private lessons so far and we don't look as good as the couple in the photo….yet….but we're on our way. I think this might be the time I can finally overcome my dance shortcomings and begin to dance like a star…well…maybe at the very least learn to dance like a person that doesn't look like Big Bird trying to do Swan Lake.
