Ice Storm – & Stealing My Sunshine
So since I've been away this happened…

The worst ice storm in Ontario and the north east which ripped apart our backyard. $700 later the branches were removed but in the spring we will need to pay again to have the tree trimmed professionally. So sad since I loved that massive tree. Our neighbourhood was a mess. It looked like a bomb had gone off.
We were lucky enough not to have our power go out as well. So many people suffered for days in the cold without power.
To escape our horrible winter we headed down to Florida for a few days.

And Flagler Beach.

Did a little hiking with flocks of egrets.

You can't really tell here but this place looked like Jurassic Park. I fully expected to see a dinosaur come out and chase us. Luckily we didn't spot any alligators or crocodiles.

Wild mushrooms spotted on the trail.

Road going into the park.

We went to Kennedy Space Centre and saw the space shuttle Atlantis.

Walked more trails.

Enjoyed the wonderful extended coastline and endless beaches.

Hung out on the wharf.

And had a picnic on the beach.
Yes, it was cooler than we'd hoped. I guess we were big ninnies though since there were people in the water swimming and surfing! What??? I think those people swimming were from Nebraska or the Yukon and had skin like a polar bear.

This is the last look we had before driving back to Orlando to catch our delayed (of course) flight home.
Oh! I almost forgot! The BEST thing that happened when we were there was that I was carded!

I know what you're thinking…the guy must have been 100 and visually impaired, but he was around 22 and didn't have a white cane by his side or a seeing eye dog.
I was so confused and clueless I actually looked at Robert and said, "What, we get asked for id when we are buying groceries now? What is this, a police state?"
Then Robert pointed out the wine we were buying. Duh!
This old lady forgot there was a time when I couldn't buy alcohol.
So that was like a little extra Christmas gift for me.
Until someone here spoiled it for me and said that in the States they often card anyone under 40.
Is that true? Or was someone just trying to steal my sunshine?
Happy New Year! What We Wore…
Thanks to everyone for all your lovely holiday wishes. I hope you too had a fine time during the holidays.
It was refreshing to take a bloggie and online break. Felt a bit like the year 1999. Hard to believe that our lives weren't always controlled by texting, emails and social media.
Here we are in 2014 and this is what we wore out for New Year's Eve.
Technically it wasn't really New Year's when we wore this, since our flight had been delayed and we were flying back home from Florida, but we wore this out this weekend to a "fake" New Year's Eve dance where we had not one, not two, but three New Year's Eve count downs.
Taken from countdown #2 I think…

Thankfully I didn't age three years in one evening but I have lived through nights where the next day I did feel and look like I'd aged three years. Haven't we all been there?
I wore my 1960's vintage orange Gale Mitchel gown.

I will admit it wasn't easy to dance in this, but oh how I loved wearing this gown.

Husband wore his pinstripe suite. I told him I wanted to dance with James Bond and this was like a modern version.
I still want to find a classic tux for him. Tuxes are so sexy! Don't you think?

Although this Hugo Boss suit is very sexy too.
Note to self: never ever stand like this again. My head looks like it has been Photoshopped on my body. Not in a good Photoshopped way either. And did my face just gain 10 lbs? Definately NOT my good side.
Did you get dressed up and go out for New Year's this year?
